Series 3 Radiator

Evening all, Shirley here, and once again I'm begging landyzone members for advice.
I'm trying to plumb in the cooling system, but my radiator looks nothing like the pictures in my Haynes manual or LRworkshop.

There doesn't appear to be a header tank , just an overflow pipe.
Is this a previous bodge?
Or is it a military item? I know the fan and belts are military.
Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Looks right to me the 'header' is just the top of the radiator, the overflow would go to a bottle on the left side but in your case you don't have one

You have a bog standard open circuit radiator and overflow with its coolant expansion within to top of the rad, the remote expansion tank is now seen came with the close circuit cooling system thats now fitted in vehicles.

Bog standard… as fitted to a 1976 car I own, plus my 1987 3.5 RR and an old 1960 mini once had.
 
This is what it looks like.
If newish the brass header would polish up nicely with a replacement core, but as it stands its scrap material at £135.

The ”expansion bottle” is an add-on perhaps the vehicle kept overheating, or the owner didn‘t know how to fill the rad to correct level therefore when the rad overflows they liked to retain the fluid loss..

No sorry its not. Far as I am aware that is how they were, exactly the same as the 2nd hand one I bought for the Series 2a. Not original for the 2a but suitable to use.
Our 60's Mustang just dumps the excess out on the floor and finds its own happy level.
