Radiator - 2.6 petrol is it the same as a 2.25 petrol?

Hiya

after a fun 3 hours getting to and from a job interview today, due to the rad repeatedly ****ing the contents of the cooling system all over the engine bay and road, it's time to get a new radiator, but...

is the 2.6 petrol rad the same as the 2.25?

The manual doesn't give different instructions, and it does for most things on the 2.6.

I K-Sealed it after getting the water pump sorted and thought I'd got away with it, but the nice AA man dumped a tin of K-Seal in today and didn't help a lot, so where's best place for a new one (assuming it is the same for all models)?

thats £350 quid with the VAT, no wonder these motors get swapped out for TDi's, I can buy a disco for that money!

so, can I get away with bolting any other rad into the old chicken shed, stock 2.25 for instance? can't see that it would make a lot of difference, apart from maybe needing different hoses for the top and bottom, and I was going to replace them anyway

The other option is to have it re-finned!

I am seriously beginning to think it would easier and cheaper to bin the whole 2.6 and replace it with something that actually works properly and that you can get parts for!

I have an option on a 2nd hand 2.25 rad that will plumb in with a bit of fiddling, that should get me through the winter, but the tdi option might work too....

I think the main (only?) difference is that the bottom pipe fits on the other side.

So with a bit of ingenuity and some hose corners and steel tube you may be able to get the thing to fit.

a V8 rad will fit in and take up the entire space behind the rad panel just so you know ;)
 
I've gone for the 2.25 rad, bought some nice shiny ally pipes and run the outlet up, then back across the rad to the water pump - 3 s3 top hoses and one bottom hose (not on the bottom of course!) and £12 of pipes, plus a decent 2nd hand rad - about £50 quid all in, so I'm happy

will all be plumbed in this weekend, then I'll take a pic. electric fan arriving monday, to be installed on the front of the rad as a 'pusher' will sort the airflow at stopped and low speed I hope...
