It doesn't matter what breakdown club you are with. It's luck of the draw how long you wait. It all depends on how close the last job was to where you are and also how busy it is.
Yeah I realise that, must be just a lucky bugger cause they've always got to me well within an hour.

My average time to scene after being given a job is 22 minutes. I do have a lead foot though.;)
Had the pleasure of getting stuck in traffic coming out of blue water near the dartford crossing thursday of last week, breakdowns everywhere!Saw a highways agency flatbed and incident response transit going to a fella, the recovery truck had a two tone siren!Every ****er got out of his way, but only the amber strobes, no blues. Bit of over kill really, the fella who had broken down was well out of harms way on the cevrons on the slip and traffic werent moving anyway!

I got recovered by the AA, they asked me if it had been modified, I said yes, they asked if it had been lowered:D

oh don't worry other day i got asked same question by the RAC, thought to myself land rover wouldn't be to good off road if was lowered lol

As an independent operator we cover all the main agencies, so it doesn't really matter which one you are with up here. Biggest problem just now is that most recoveries are going the same way - ie south after NY - so by the time you take one (or two) vehicle(s) 120 miles south, off-load, and then return to base area, 5-6 hours has elapsed. Don't get through many per shift!!
The mechanics are averaging about 20 vehicles a day tho :D

We're doing about 20 jobs a day down south too. My truck batteries are taking a hamering from the non stop cranking they're doing all day. I have 2 snap-on jump packs. I usually have 1 on charge while I'm using the other. I generally switch them over about once a week to once a fortnight. I'm having to switch them over daily at the moment. High pressure diesels can be a right bastid to start.:eek::eek:

I'm an RAC patrol, and I've lost count how many times I've been told "it's only the fan belt mate" only to find the alternator seized or a tensioner hanging off.
As much as I'd like to have a part for every car in the back of my van I'd need the Tardis model to carry them.
Once I did collect a part en route to a job on the insistance that the member who claimed to be a mechanic was adamant the belt was the only fault.
On arrival I found the PAS pump pulley hanging off and when I asked him for the £15:20 for the belt which I purchased out of my own pocket he refused to pay for it as it won't fix the car (although his old one was knackered).
It's still in the back of my van a year later, won't be doing that again!

As for sending the correct vehicle first time, if we send a patrol we get "I asked for a truck( sorry but were not going to recover you 200+ miles 'cause you never had your spare tyre repaired and you can get a part used one for £10 at home).
Or we send a truck and we get "I asked for a patrol as I have a spare cambelt in the boot for my V6 Vectra"

Guy's I don't claim were perfect but I do believe were the best as I've worked for the AA,Landrover Assistance (Mondial), and now the RAC
and we genuinely try to do the best for the member with the resources available at the time you breakdown.:)

From my personal experiance you guys (AA/RAC - been a member of both) do a great job. Only once did I have a roadside vehicle come out to try and repair only to send a recovery later that was years ago.

Every other time they have sent the best vehicle for the job and I was happy that a flatbed was sent for my landy when I asked for it after the torque converter oil seal went.
