the proper description of what is commonly called centrifugal force is actually "lack of centripetal force".

Please explain in words of one syllable. On the other hand, I have lived with centrifugal force for so long now that it is ok. Don't explain. I wish to remain ignorant.
from my physics classes many moons ago:
centrifugal, from the latin, centre fleeing, from same source as the word fugative.
centripetal, from the latin, centre seeking, from the source as the flower petal.
if you fly a small aircraft you soon learn about centripetal force. it can kill you in very short order!
