I am no expert but I don't think the engine mounts contribute to the noise experienced in a defender, they are just noisy by nature. You can soften it a little but its always goona be on the loud side of things.

Won t make any difference to engin noise but the type of tyres make a huge difference to road noise and smoothness of ride, people will no doubt laugh at my suggestion but is true.

My 110 hardtop was driving me round the bend with the noise from the Colway mud pattern, replaced them with BFG Mud terrains and tyre noise ceased, Rubber matting and all my insulating now leaves transmission wine, bell-housing blanket, which is lead lined, is to be fitted in new-year. If the Landy had a V8 I don't think I would have done such a good job and the stereo volume would be the gas pedal:D

Lead is a very effective around the engine and transmission, bitumen based roofing flashing tape in conjunction with this is the business, extra weight I know, but you can't have it all. ;)

flahing tape on the bell housing sounds like a good plan.. might do under the seat box's too.. i have a 110 hard top, just ply lined it with some polystyrene inbetween, has made it slightly quieter.. a MILLION time warmer tho!

Just for info, fitted std factory puma springs and ditched the early lop sided ones as fitted by former keeper, drivers side was silly hi.

It's now quieter than my zafira even at 70 having done no other mods. So I put it down to a silly prop angle.

Cheers

I love the sound of my 90, the rattles the bangs, the wind howling through the gaps in the doors and bodywork. Its great when er in doors is with me, i cant hear a bloody word she is saying !
