Quick wiring query.

Afternoon all. The nice weather today has inspired me to get out and do some bits on the 90. I'm in the middle of fitting driving lights as I'm sick of not seeing at night. Especially now as its practically dark all the time.

Anyway: I've wired in everything bar where you splice into the main beam circuit, my question is can I do that right by the switch for the headlights in the cab? I've searched and not found my answer. Also, just double checking that it would still be the blue wire if you did it there rather than nearer the headlights.

You can splice into the circuit anywhere, just remember to go through a relay!

Ok cheers. Thought so but it's always best to check with wiring. Don't want to go electrocuting myself again. :doh:

The Blue/White trace (UW) wire coming from the Dip/Main/Flash/Indicator stalk switch is the Main Beam wire.

You might find these useful -

On my 1989 110, I cut the UW wire behind the dash, near to the switch, and crimped a bullet onto each cut end -

then put them into a 4-way junction -

leaving two spare ways to tap-off (via on/off switches) for triggering relays for Driving Lamps and Roof Lamps.

Got it all done, thanks for the help guys. Only thing now is that they are a very dim orange light. Is this likely due to them just being cheap £30 halfords jobbies (55w ring rectangular driving lamps) or a bad earth/connection somwhere?

when they are on or off ?

either points to a wiring fault

That's not right, Ring Lamps aren't wonderful, but they're not that bad - 55w should be too bright to look at

Where have you earthed them?

the switch on the dash is wired to the metal plate that holds the fuse box (a previous owner had earthed something there so though that was ok), the lights are earthed to the bolts that hold my steering guard to the chassis, and the relay is earthed to the inner wing (i think this is where the problem likely lies).

I've put together a quick diagram of how I connected my spots in case its of any help. I remember understanding relay wiring took a little thought at the time.

In your case it sounds like you will have your power activating the relay coming from a wire spliced into the loom in the wing rather than the fuse box.
