just a quickie, me old disco is feelin poorly and i have been informed that i have a blocked fuel filter. the fuel filter is an extra one fitted under the rear wheel arch which i knew nothin about. its never been changed in the whole life of my K reg motor.
as the car is not with me just now can you tell me if this filter is the same type as the one under the bonnet.

thats a fuel sedimenter it's there to catch water and crap from yer tank. there's a nut on the top you undo that and the bowl comes off. Don't try to undo the plastic drain plug they usually snap if you do.

Do a search for fuel sedimenter see what it turns up

thanks for that. would hate to have purchased the wrong part before goin to fix me car.

Unless the sedimenter is actually physically damaged, cracked etc you shoudn't need to buy a new one. Just take the bowl off, clean everything in parafin and that should do you.

Make sure you plug the pipe from the tank to the sedimenter though or you could empty your tank onto your drive. The sedimenter is only there to pro-long the live of the filter in the engine bay, it takes all the worst out of the fuel before getting there.

Or just keep it above the top of the tank then it won't spill a drop

yah this is the easiest way todo it, just i tried it once and cus i am a tool the pipe slipped down and diesel went everywhere so i'm deffo using plugs next time.

Did mine a few days ago, far ammount of crap in sedimenter !!! As mentioned in other replies......be quick to seal off the diesel supply or you'll get a sleave full of it !!!!!
Also, just buy new sealing gasket for sedimenter much cheaper option.
