Putting Freestyle Disco alloys on a Series 2

Can I have some advice, please.

I'm about to put a ex P38 Range Rover power steering box on my 1962 2a to convert it to pas. I've also got a set of ex disco 1 Freestyle alloys which I bought for another vehicle last year which has since been sold.
The 2a has Fairey freewheeling hubs which I presume will have to removed.
I also have a complete 1977 S 3 which I use for parts which has "normal" front hubs.

What do I have to do to get the alloys to fit on the 2a? I understand that the rear hubs will accept the alloys without modification but what do I have to buy and/or adapt to get the fronts to fit?

I will have to buy spacers or adaptors, I expect, but what type?

I'd be grateful for any advice or pointers.

Hi cant help you with the wheels but this Converting a series Land Rover to power steering might help you with the power steering look foward to lots of picks as you convert it.

The alloys wont fit straight on as the hub hits the inside of the rim with 30mm spacers you should overcome this the wheels will stick out past the wings by around 10-15mm though. you can get spacers to suit alloy wheels the cheaper ones dont have anything for the wheel to locate on, when i had the non locating type fitted to my rangie it caused horrible vibrations plus i never really trusted that they werent going to fly off so took them off

It's been said before but obviously needs saying again. Alloy wheels on a series landy should be dealt with by the courts and corporal punishment should be brought back as a deterrent. Can't believe anyone would have such a gross lack of taste.

Thank you for your replies except for Hughesy above. If I had wanted to ask for his opinion on taste then I would have asked for exactly that. I didn't.
It's my 2a and I will do as I want to it.

You're bonkers having alloys on a series.
And what do you need PAS for? Is it a fully laden 109, or are you parking in town and trying to turn the steering while stationary?
Even with half a ton in the back of me 109 I never really missed PAS...

yes it is you're series......but be aware that if it's a 109" the alloys will need to be rated correctly and fitting range rover/discovery/90 wheels will invalidate you're insurance as the load rating isn't high enough (check the difference between the load ratings of LWB and SWB wheels) also be aware that you're wheels bearings/swivels/steering componants will deteriorate quicker if you use spacers due to the added load placed on them (plus you will need to fit extended arches as the wheels will protrude beyond the body)

You will have quite a surprise if you do.

Defender 130 rims don't look the same, and as for Wolf rims, forget it!

I know, I've looked at every alternative.

Zeus rims? I could buy a complete Series Landy for the cost of 4 of those.

proper landrover HD road wheels are the same part number as 'wolf rims' standard fitment to 130 and 110HD unless you mean the look alike 'wolf rims' the likes of paddock were selling a couple of years ago which would be the only distinction between wolf and 130 wheels

Yes, fair enough. I only asked if it was feasible and I don't really like the idea of spacers anyway. I've just been looking at a thread in a Toyota HiLux forum and one guy had 3 spacer failures in 2 years.

So it looks as if it'll be the 6.5 inch ex Military 130 wheels I'll go for from Vass.

i mean disco one steelie's are bad enough as they look like alloys but ****ing alloys that is far too much, mate if you want ALLOY'S THEN YOU HAVE THE WRONG ****ING LANDROVER!!!!!!! so what you want is upto you and you if you cant take our advice then dont ****ING ASK FOR IT!
