Pushrod not moving

I recently had to replace the head gasket on a 19J engine due to some oil leaking out the back. After reassembly, tappets we checked and set but after running - the cap on valve 6 is able to jump off and after watching it running with the rocker cover off, the pushrod on the second valve doesnt appear to be moving - exverything else looks ok. Any idea on how to diagnose and proceed?
 
Sounds like the slider/guide or the roller are broken or the push rod isn’t seated on it properly. Likely to be a head off repair
 
Can you take aside cover off to see the cam
If you take the rockers off and turn engine over you should see the cam followers rise and fall as engine turned
You can also check the push rods
Did you set the gaps using correct process
 
The cap should not be able to jump off with the gap set at 0.2 mm the cap would need to left a further 2mm to clear the valve
Did you find the dislodged cap , mine punched through and ended in sump on my 200tdi
Perhaps it went down the push rod hole and jammed the follower in top position so cam
misses it
Did any gasket scrapings end up in the tapper slide which could have jammed it in up position
With rocker shaft removed you should see comparing with others when engine turned how high the push rod Is if it stays high it’s prob jammed tapped slide the (brass bit)
 
Took the rocker shaft off - Slider/guide is ok - Pushrod is jammed and cant be removed but can be turned abit - Assume will have to pull head off to free it? is there anything else i need to check. If its a new head gasket, will i need to put a new one in or reuse?
 
Im puzzled, how did you check the brass tappet slide with head on and push rod stuck in hole
Did you take a side panel off, ive been working on my 200tdi putting head on! , on this pic you can see the brass tappet slide and the dished bit in the middle where the push rod sits, the rod could have been placed not in the dish properly or could have moved if rocker gaps big and crank moved, its likely the rod had slipped down to the side of the tappet slide in the gap that's why it wont pull out,
read today that the gaps should be closed up some where near before turning crank
its prob best to pull the head and undo the retaining bolt to get the whole tappet assembly out complete with rod, then al parts can be inspected, take care not to drop any parts inside
if the gasket lifts off ok without tearing apart it might be ok to reuse

at least you know , I bought some valve caps from turner engineering more expensive than most but they need to be well ard
theyre a good place to shop rather than cheapo parts that can fail quite quickly

Yep - parts ordered. Part of the brass slider has broken off - see pic. Should I drop the sump to see if I can find it?

Did you get the round follower out is that ok , you should see cam from above and turn engine slowly see it’s not trapped anywhere , unless your curious I woulda leave it there till next oil change it can’t get sucked up again passed the oil strainer unless there are v small parts
 
Bit of bent wire to hook it up with the circular bit , loosen retaining bolt a bit , don’t drop it into sump, don’t need cam out , study diagram above
