Puma MY2011 Diesel Emissions Upgrade N178

Received a letter from LR asking me to book in for a free software update as 'testing has found that certain 2011 Defender 2.4 Puma vehicles no longer meet regulatory emissions limits'.

The update will be to the 'Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to enable the emissions to meet the required standard'.

I've yet to book in, but want to ask if anyone else received this and/or had the update carried out. If so, has anyone noticed any subsequent problems? Thanks

Hmmm.....be careful, if it’s anything like the VW emissions software “upgrade” the engine won’t run as well afterwards.

That's exactly what I feared, hence I wanted to find out of anyone had experience of the "upgrade". A quick Google search didn't throw anything up...

I would wait until you get feedback from someone who has had it done.
Once “upgraded” it can’t be put back to how it was if there are running issues.
The dealer will blame Land Rover and say there’s “nothing” they can do.

If that were strictly true, would it not be a mandatory recall ? Seriously - if they now fail the euro "X" type certificates, then they no longer meet construction and use regs - so you're potentially uninsurable and all the other carp that goes with that .....

I read the thread on defender2 with interest too .... and I'd concur with their advice, and everyone above, and leave it alone - if they make it mandatory, clearly that's somewhat different ...

And the governbent wonder why people with more than one brain cell despair of their "system"
