My 3dr Freelander had quite a lot of moisture on the windows lately so after checking for water ingress I found literally 2 inches of water in the floor compartment in the boot/ rear. I have the proper plastic tray in the back so hadn't seen in the wee hiddey-hole for ages. Any ideas of where it could be from? Rear window seals well and all the rear rubbers are in good nick and hard roof seems sealed.

condensation is my theory, warm air from the exhausr, directly underneath cubby hol, condensing on the cold plastic lid of cubby hole, drill holes in the cubby hole base to allow drainage. crap desgin. and ur not gonna be the only one with this issue either.
 
Would that cause a couple of inches of water though? Thought it would have evaporated. Had to pale it out with a cup! Was expecting a few messages with folk moaning about it!
 
search, theres books written on this, and yeah it can be inches for some peoples boots, Commonly known as the Freelander fish bowl.
 
Aha! Tried a search earlier. Using the 'tappatalk' app on the fone. Best to pull the laptop out and search properly!

no problem!! theres a gromet you can pull out, holes to drill, some peeps even use the caravan dehumidifier stuff too, very common issue mate.
 
My 3 door had exactly the same issue, searched the forum and found a thread about the hard cover being in 3 parts and glued together or summat, advised to use some sealant along the 2 top canals (run the length of the hardtop) where the 2 outer parts are joined to the roof part, not had any water in since... Hope this helps
 
Solved the damp boot carpet/condensation problem on mine , When I had to fix the rear handle that got broke I found the rear door membrane lining was not sealed/loose in one corner , Glued that back with silicon and so far it appears to have dried up .
 
I have had this problem on both Freelanders and found that the rear door seal was in good condition but did not seal that well on the door hinge side, by re positioning the seal and moving the metal surround of the car body I was able to get a better seal and its been fine in both cases since.

The carpet takes ages to dry though because of the foam backing, I removed it and dried it after squeezing out the water :rolleyes:
 
You'll need to remove the rear seats and 4 interior panals to lift the rear carpet to get it fully dried, seats are 6 screws and the panals are about 6 torx each for the ones with speakers, the rears are held in with the 4 clips.

Mine suffers badly from misting up but the carpet is bone dry, my pop out window on the passenger side though has a leak and that's where my issue could be..
