Can I put a pto winch from a defender onto my 200tdi auto discovery

Next question what's ruffly involved as been offered winch plus fender winch bumper for £80

defender one wont fit, be wrong shape and mounts are wrong



You need something like this which has vertical mounts on the back

Doc that bull bar looks like the angel on the right is different from the left side?

Add some more weld to those tow points, should have 1/2-5/8 fillet weld there

I've not got any front ones in stock atm anyway or not for a disco at any rate, one series one being made up currently and got two disco rear bumpers in. Need to make up a couple of fronts for eastnor but got a standard HD replacement for fenders to do first and the rear swingaway carrier for my disco too

Was thinking about cutting bumper up just using the winch mount etc was just wondering about fitting the pto winch to auto box

you cant just use the winch mount as it still needs mounting to chassis so you'd need to make new legs

Have to have a look and see what I can do as for fitting the winch is it straight forward as only ever done electric winch

most PTO winces are hydraulic, you are getting the hydraulic pump too arnt you??

Basically my uncles mate brought a ex national grid defender, witch had the winch on front but wasn't connected, but he was told all the parts are in the boot, to connect it up but he doesn't want it, so he took the winch bumper, winch, plus the bits in the boot, and put in his garage, he said I could have the lot £80

Also my uncle said something about connecting to gear box

I'll trade ya a leccy one for the PTO ?

Be a husky 8 with everything you need to mount it to a disco

If it is a working winch and all the bits you have a very expensive bit if kit. you could sell it a buy a NEW electric winch with it. Look very carefully as what they are worth. just a new hydrolic winch is over 2k new

pto shaft, tractor dealer/service center, can make you one up cheap

Not quite true……look on completed listings.


A lot of the hydraulic ones unless milemaker or is it a make starting with red ? go for under £500

Plus IIRC isn't there a slight problem mounting an HYD to an auto box ? something to do with the clutch pack and gearing ?

well cheaper than from a lr dealer. the right uj's and a chunk of slip pto shaft.

I could buy the pieces to make a new pto shaft at about 30p on a quid than form a dealer made pto shaft for farm equipment

just look on the bay and the gear box is 1k couldn't find the winch though.

Jeep and toyato pto winches complete are 3-3900 quid on the bay ready to bolt on.

He has something worth more a new bumper and a good 10,000 Lb winch. and if he lets it go for a used winch he is a fool, plain and simple. He should pm Ratty and get a honest price for what he has
