Hi again all, ope ur all well.

Can anyone tell me what the part is that the front propshaft connects to when entering the transfer box? Ive been avin a fair ammont of vibrations coming from under the cab so the first thing I checked was the propshafts, ujs and the bolts etc. I found that the uj at the transfer box end had about 5mm of play in it and the connecting bolts were slightly loose. There also was roughley 5mm of play inside the transfer box where the prop connects. How do I go about sorting this out? Thanks folks.
 
replacing UJs is cheap and easy and will sort out the play in the propshaft. However, you are most likely looking at transfer box refurb or replacement to eliminate the play in it. Mine has about an inch of play and every time I engage gear i get a loud 'click'; im just gonna run it till it dies and then drop a good second hand unit in.

Do the prop shaft UJs first. Any then see if the vibration is still there. I strongly suspect that the UJs are responsible for all the vibration.

You don't say which gearbox you have, but the front output shaft bearing in the LT230 transfer box does seem to have a lot more play than you would suspect. I have changed a few of these to no effect, so I now tend to just inspect them and only change if there is visable sights of wear.

You can change this bearing with the gearbox in place.

The gearbox is the lt77 type with the lt230 transfer box. With regards to the renewal of the front propshaft uj, I have purchased a double decardon prop from fleabay but I would have just done the uj but I have a 2" lift fitted so when I go around a right hand bend it sounds like the uj's are binding as the body rolls. (as well as the general prop vibration) Is it worth doing the bearing at the same time because I might aswell do it while changing the prop if it it is straight forward enough.

Why don't you change the bearings? Easily done and not expensive.
 
Thanks for that busterbus, thats a great help. When Ive got a few mins/hours spare I will replace the bearing.

Ive just recieved a double decardon prop from fleabay, when I opened it I thought it looked too short...it was. I offered it up to the front prop and low and behold 4+" short at full length, even to the rear prop. Have you any idea why this is. The listing was for a "Land Rover 90 / 110 /defender extreme double yoke prop shaft". Am I missing somthing here because to me its the wrong one. Many Thanks again.

Only thing ah can think off is it might be different sizes for different years or gearboxes. If it was a rear one, then it might've been intented to fit a salisbury axle.
 
Well actually, it's funny you say that because just after replyed to you earlier I emailed the seller of the prop and he said it was off a military defender 110 (which is from my knowlage have sailsbury axels) but assured me as far as he was aware it should have fitted a 90. Is there any non bodge way to fit it to my 90?

Ah don't think there is a non bodge way to fit it, but ah might be wrong.
Just went and measured my spare props (200tdi 110), the front is 27" long and the rear is 41.5" long closed if that's any help.
 
When I got it this morning I measured it at 23" extended. Basically with the looks of it I've wasted £80 quid then?! By the way, do you know anyone who wants a double decadron prop for a landy that's too short!!!?? Only £80...
