Don't let the children bother you

IMHO winter tyres apply mainly to cars/light vans/softroaders that would usually have a tyre fitted with good dry/wet road capabilities yet because of their lack of tread pattern due to large circumferential grooving are practically useless in snow.

Winter tyres have a more aggressive tread and with that comes a greater rolling resistance and reduced fuel economy, they are generally of a lower speed rating to a standard tyre and will run hotter with accelerated wear in certain driving conditions.

Personally I would advise buying a quality modern all terrain tyre which will have excellent all weather capability built into its design such as the General Grabber AT which I run on my Disco2, can't fault them!

Yes you slipped on ice, we all have, why are you making such a big deal? You already knew winter tyres were better, that's why they are made..... For winter conditions, they have a differant compound and thus react differently. Common sence really, people have given you opinions which you have ignored, because you already knew the answer. Searching the titerweb is a marvellous tool and I'm sure once you grasped the concept you too will be able to find tyres of all shapes, sizes and compounds.

But why keep banging on about selling you fender? It's not its fault you slipped?? It's yours for being under prepared for the weather, don't forget in winter conditions you will be attempting to stop over 2t, just cuz it's a 4x4 doesn't mean you don't have to drive accordingly for the conditions.

Why would a Fiesta have done any better? Ok they are lighter, maybe the other cars had winter tyres on??
