Ok I have read through all the propshaft posts regarding the alignment of the front prop uj's

And now I got myself confused.

My Defender 90 300tdi has the front prop aligned or in phase. There has been a rumble especially on the overrun but when I took the front prop off yesterday there seemed to be no problems with the joints.

Just to confirm, should my 300tdi defender have the front prop out of phase by 1-2 teeth / 30deg

Cheers.

Cheers. There was a comment on one of the posts that it didn't apply to 300 defenders and discos, but couldn't understand why so just thought I would check.

Thanks again

James is the man with experience and i would go by him. See the attached article that i found on the net . Basically if the two flanges are paralell then they should be fitted in phase. If not then they should be fitted out of phase, no of splines as per attached, or as per James.

Cheers. Just swapped it round and advanced the axle end anticlockwise by one spline.

Off out in a bit so will see what it's like.

That's a very good diagram, you learn something new every day. Cheers for that

Yes definitely better generally, but the rumble on the overrun has gone.

There is still a little tremor at certain speeds but it could be something else.

Next time I get chance, I'll try it another tooth round to make it 45 degrees advanced just in case it needs it.

As I have HD springs on which has given it a slight lift would this make the prop more likely to need the extra advance, or is that unlikely.

Yep, the more you lift it, the more angle the pinion will be pointing upwards so might need to be advanced another tooth.

Fitting castor correction radius arms reduces the angle back down abit alright but you can have other problems then and sometimes ending up needing wide angle or double cardon shafts.
