Hi, looking for some advice. I've been well and truly ripped off by a dealer in Nottingham, SON prestige and now don't know what to do. We bought a face lifted 2002 L322 for £11,000 about 8 months ago. It's had endless issues but trader won't fix or refund. I've just tried to MOT it and it's failed because there is extensive corrosion to the chassis and brake pipes.

It's quoted as £2/3k to fix which I just don't have. Should I sell it to breakers or as a MOT fail for a project? I'm out of suggestions, broke, devastated and don't know what else to do. Court is not an option that will also cost upto £2k which if I lose, I'll be in an even worse situation. Any advice welcomed.

Small claims court would not cost £2K, read the croc of **** thread and try citizens advice. Car is clearly not fit for purpose.

As above......there is a post on the forum (General Land Rover Chat I think by Fanatic called Crock of ****....search for it, it is a sticky at the top of the forum listing)

£11k for a 2002 model is a ridiculous price, with the greatest of respect, with any Range Rover purchase research is key to make sure you are getting the best price....regardless of the facelift conversion £11k is well over the top!

Sorry to bust your chops and i know its not helpful, but i have to agree with saint there.

what problems have you had ??

Hi,

Thanks for the replies so far. The court costs are almost £2000 which if I lose, I still have a trashed range rover. It's £455 to apply for court, £335 for a hearing and approx. £1000 for the report I need to prove that the chassis was corroded long before I bought it. I thought I did do my research and I also thought because I was buying from a garage that I was protected.

I can't risk going to court without the specialist report because it's so difficult to prove without it that the corrosion was already there. The owner of the garage also said to me "take me to court, I won't own the business by the time it gets to court so you won't get a penny. I've done it before, I'll do it again."

I'll read the thread by 'crock of ****' and see where that gets me. And There were loads of range rovers at or around £11k when I bought mine so it didn't seem that unusual.

Just read the crock of **** piece, I'm over 6 months, so I only have court as an option which isn't really an option because of the costs. How much can I sell it for as a project?

If it's 2010 face lifted then it could easily fetch that sort of money

£4k just on conversion costs !

But it's still a 2002 YOM. Bling doesnt add value on resale.

£1000 for the report I need to prove that the chassis was corroded long before I bought it.

By wit of corrosion, it would be self explaining that excessive strutural corrosion was there before hand, even a range rover doesnt corrode in that short a time period unless it's been dunked in salt water.

The owner of the garage also said to me "take me to court, I won't own the business by the time it gets to court so you won't get a penny. I've done it before, I'll do it again."

That the answer on court right there. An unscrupulous trader that will wind the business up and move on. he's done it before. And, you just have costs!

As the saying goes, getting a judgement is easy, it's collecting on it that's the hard part.

So we're back to the issue of repair or part out. No one will able to give you an opinion on that unless you can provide some graphic details of the corrosion or you can explain in detail. where the corrosion is.

To be honest with you, there are plenty on here that will be happy to help, point you in the right direction or give advice and tips. There are some on here that are restoring range rovers, and many like saint and datatek and wammers that are quite literally fonts of knowledge.. Where in the country are you ? you bought the L322 in Nottingham but where are you at?

Hmmmm that is quite bad unfortunately.

Subframes are cheap as chips s/h on the bay full of E, around £200 odd swapping it out is a tough job, but if you are mechanically minded and can weald a spanner with confidence, it could be done!

Selling to a breaker will not return you much cash all they will do is weigh it in, if you can part it out yourself and flog on ebizzle you will make more, and selling as an MOT fail will fetch a bit more again, but again it won't pay you back what it owes you! Top whack £3k at a push £4k if it is mint everywhere else!

Sorry to hear of your woes, the P38 Range Rover is by far the most rust free of all Land Rover products....shame the L322 went backwards in that respect.

(If you do part it out, can I have the Instrument Pack and LCM - possibly even the head lamps :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D)

Hi,

The garage I'm dealing with have said £2-3k to fix. I can't do this myself, I'm not at all mechanically minded and I'm nearly 7 months pregnant. I've spoken to a trader who like you said, has offered me £3.5k which at the moment I'm considering. That said, he wants everything on it which makes me think he going to repair it and sell it on. If I can find somewhere or someone who would part with £5k then I would take the hit as I'm exhausted thinking about this. I also need another car before the baby arrives and right now all my money is tied up in the Range Rover. Is there a cheaper way than £2-3k??

Hi.
I've got a 2003 I've had it 2 years and is in sound condition although only an s model.i paid 6000 from a dealer.
On experience depending how bad the chassis is and where it is it can be repaired.you can buy new leg sleeves I think there called or can be plated.fuel lines are easy to do urself or someone would do them for a small amount I would have thought.all this is of course if you can't or don't go through trading standards.im sure they could help you especially on the chassis.brake lines not sure.unfortunatly d2 chassis are not as good as the do chassis.yet the body is better.only letting you know for which ever way you go.the dealership either don't know landrover or are simply a cowboy bunch of you know what's. Sorry ur going through this mate

Ok.

I'm guessing.... and this is a wild stab in the dark... you are a female ??? i'm not being sexist here, but women do tend to get striped in garages, it happened to my wife too till i popped a fuse at them!!

What about your other half; can he not weild a spanner ? if there is no other half or he cannot.... talk to an independent garage. I'm sure there are forum users in the area that can point you in the right direction.

Don't panic yet...
