That leaves 2 nice little jobs that a competent willing indie will sort out easy enough won't cost too much. Have you taken it off premises as retest will be the pi** take charge?
 
Yeah, i've got it back home.
As you said, tyres are tyres... not to bothered about that. I'm going to have my friend weld the underside as time and resources are an issue at the moment.
 
I'm pretty sure it's the pinion seal. If i can just clean it up and get it through the MOT then i'll be happy...
Then i can replace the seal when i've got the time.
 
Just for the MOT til you get chance I thought, but hylomar is brutally strong. Works on mating metal-metal jet engines together so.....

Freelanders should be okay. If you can't get a gasket - hylomar, you can glue the engine together with the stuff ( no affiliation to rolls royce) :)
 
So... i popped my head underneath the Freebie this afternoon to wipe down the diff before i re-book the MOT test...

This little inspection lamp had been riding underneath the Hippo since i re-fitted the prop shaft in November... i wondered where it had gone.
Anyway!
Here are some pictures of the rust that was found under the sill... and the subsequent welding.

Well after a whole month of hard work (which brought with it a steep learning curve), the Freebie is back on the road! MOT and all...

She's had alot of new kit including radiator and head gasket. That K-Series lump now sounds as sweet as a nut (whatever that means)...
Next... TYRES!
 
After a while away from the keyboard, i've returned with a couple of repair stories.
So... first off, i broke down on the M6 after my clutch slave cylinder exploded (a common problem, i've come to realise).
After having to start the car in gear and sometimes in reverse, i noticed a noise coming from the rear of the prop shaft.
After some research, i've come to the conclusion that the noise is coming from a universal joint... so this is what my prop shaft looks like now.

I've also removed the old carrier bearings from the VCU and have some fresh ones ready to replace them... :D
 
The VCU tests fine, i may still replace it at some point but for now it's just the bearings and UJs.
The welding doesn't look any different. I'm going to have my father in-law put some paint on it for me soon.
...whilst we're on the subject of painting, what's the best product i could put on the plastic bumpers to keep them looking fresh? Would it be best to just have those painted too?

As a query how difficult is it to replace engine to gearbox seal as it appears I have leaks around the engine sump and gearbox to engine.
