Some pictures of my project 80” that I’ve started to restore.
Basic car is a 1950 80” with a chassis number of 16100***
It’s been converted to a trialler at some stage and gained a 2.25 petrol with SU carb, S2 box and S3 axles, with wide leaf springs I believe.
I have a few bits of bodywork to go back on it when the bulkhead gets reworked and a new up to date cage gets fitted to it, this is one 80” that’s going to keep its trialler history.
I have a few things to sort, one being the SU doesn’t fully fit under the bonnet, even with part of the frame being removed. The bonnet sits higher at the bulkhead and slopes down.
Does anyone have a SU on a 2.25 that can get pictures to see how it fits, I would like to have it sitting better.
Also, I’m going to fit electric ignition and power steering to the 80”.
I’ve heard of the P38 power steering box but also heard of a Freelander 1 set up being a possibility.
It’s also jammed in low range, when I try the red lever forward, it won’t move properly and stalls out.
Otherwise, it’s the usual, full rewire, full brakes and hub rebuild, full repaint and new truck cab canvas hood, plus new 7.50 tyres.
Should be a nice change to the D3 behind it which is my faithful daily driver.
