Problems with dial illumination

Hi all, ive recently bought a 86' defender 90 with a Daihatsu engine and i have no illumination behind any of the clocks speedo fuel or voltmeter. Ive checked the fuses earlier but none blown im a bit baffled any clues would be a great help

Have you tried changing a few bulbs to see if they are blown?

Or checked you have voltage at the bulb holders?

You mentioning the engine, so do you believe that has something do do with the lack of dashboard illumination? If so that's where your investigation should start.

I took a bulb out and checked continuity and it wasnt blown but i didnt check voltage at the holder will do that tomorrow. And yes i do have a funny feeling it could have something to do with the engine being fitted because the temp gauge isnt registering neither

I once tryed to change a bulb that went off so by the end I fixed the bulb but broke the temp and batt gauge so I just left them !!! I didn't want to go back in and break something else

There is a switch down by the hazard lights that switches dash lights on and off.
