Problems removing the fan!

After buying a kenlowe fan about a year ago I have finally decided to have a go at fitting it. Its a bit embarrassing that Ive fallen at the first hurdle and cant remove the existing fan.

I was expecting to see four bolts to remove but instead there is a metal cog like abject on the front of the fan with a circular spring in the middle. Undeterred I removed the spring expecting the fan and cog thing to come away but to no avail.

I was also surprised to notice that the fan spins independently, so it seems to me that the new electric fan wont make much difference to running costs anyway.

I would be grateful for some advice on removing the fan anyways!
 
what you have there is a viscous fan.. you need to get a special thin spanner to remove it. a search of the site should uncover some helpful posts on it
 
If you haven't got a bent spanner, you might just find that a 1/4 drive socket (can't remember if its 8 or 10 mm) will just get on the four nuts holding the the fan on to its gubbins.
 
Oh aye I've remembered how I did it. you can get a spanner in to slacken the four nuts that hold the fan on then you can get a socket onto the bolt heads and turn it with your fingers. Not as good as a bent spanner on the central nut but better than making one or hitting it with things!
 
So having been to halfords and purchased said cranked spanner I just thought I would make sure I know how it all connects prior to having it off as it were.

There seems to be a few spare connectors that could be used as the feed. Theres a nice big white cable behind the radio that is unused (with a nice big black cable) and is ignition controlled. Its not fed via the fusebox, so I guess I would need a 30amp inline fuse to use it. Or would it be best to take a feed directly from the battery. Or would it be best to say f**k it and put it all back in the box and put it back in the garage or sell it on ebay!

If nothing else I managed to sort the incorrect wiring to the reversing light and rear fog lamp by scrutinising the wiring diagram. Can't get the rear window de-mister to work though. I think the previous owner was colour blind.
 
Theres a little diagram that says it needs power to the C connection on the Thermal Control and power (via an optional in line fuse) to the 30 connection on the relay, and a connection between to NC on the Thermal control and the 85 on the relay.

Doesnt say where to get the power from mind!
 
Im comming to the same conclusion. It would have been nice to have it ignition controlled so I can isolate it when necessary.
