Went to take my boy to nursery earlier only to notice my trip had reset so upon checking the rest of the computer everything had reset and after re-calculating my mpg went from 15-21.8 on a 8 mile run then back down to 20.4 SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY then still going down to 19.9 till i switched it off.

In all the time i`ve had the car the computer hasnt moved much the mpg pretty much stayed the same whether i drove it hard or not and the average speed always stayed at 16 even on a 800 mile trip in april on motorways, now the average speed got up to 20.

Now i`ve never had very good mpg considering i drive a diesel 22.4 being the best i`ve had but if its getting worse then i think i`d better change to petrol, the funny thing is when i was accelerating the mpg would either go up slightly or stay put but when i let off the gas it went down???

Its heading for a wall if gets any worse.

oh the joys of owning a range rover...
my fiance was out in it today after me and shes now returning 23.1 mpg (the car not the donkey) anyway this is the best its got in my ownership

Sorry - am I missing something here??? Do you expect that the MPG would improve whilst you are sitting at idle not going anywhere????

Poor economy could be a few things, but I'd be checking out the injector on Cyl 4. as it has a sensor on it. If that one goes bad then the ECU won't be sending the correct mixture to the engine resulting in poor economy. Whilst you're in there check for leaking injectors as well - quite common on that engine.

20-ish sounds about right for around town driving to me. Around 30 on a run if you're careful. Average somewhere around 27-ish. I did manage 36MPG once whilst slipstreaming a lorry doing 56mph!

Dont expect it to improve just dont expect it to go down .1 mpg every few seconds while idling, just never done it before.

As for the injectors leaking, they dont the engine was just replaced 16k ago with a full rebuild and i`m under the bonnet most days checking it. Number 4 injector i have heard of how would i check it?

The reason i reckon its mpg is so bad is cos every1 else says they get 30ish, i dont just get low 20`s in town i get it on a run too like when i went to ipswich and straight back i got 19.8, it was only after this long run it got slightly better avg 21 mpg. Could my computer have been wrong all this time and only just woken up and started giving me proper readings? I mean i have never been able to watch it go up and down till yesterday even the avg speed changed for once.

Of course it all depends on when your trip was reset. If you only did 8 miles since it was reset then the average will change very quickly. If you have done 5000 miles since the last reset you will hardly notice it moving.

Reset the trip computer before each trip and you will have a good idea of what it is doing by the end of each trip.

thats not what i meant, i always reset the trip what happened was it had reset itself overnight and reset the whole computer.

   I think you've missed the point completely - when you are sat still you are doing 0, Zero, none, nothing, not any MPG (MILES per gallon). When you are moving, no matter how fast, how hard you drive you are doing at least some MPG.

Am I going mad people, is it just me

the reason i was asking was the fact it never moved before and hence the reason for my post anyway never mind that i`ve got bigger problems to worry about now NO SUSPENSION
