Google AMK, Hitachi, Dunlop, there also cheap chinese copies, but tbh I have not read anyhting about them so would be very wary.

AMK is the compressor of choice, AMK is standard fit on the D4 and was the usual upgrade for the D3 when the original compressor failed.

Hitachi is I beleve totally rebuildable, AMK not so.

lynall i will get a AMK ..I JUST NEED TO GET THE NUMBERS OF MY compressor SO I NO I HAVE THE RIGHT ONE ...WHT A DIFFERENT IN PRICE ...I WAS TOLD TO DAY I WOULD COST MR OVER £1000 ...AND THE AMK UNIT IS £255 WELL HAPPY I WILL KEEP THE CAR AMD NOT SCRAP IT

If you already have an AMK it is a straight swap, if you have another make of compressor fitted you need the pipe kit, which I think comes with most AMK compressors anyway.
 
If you change from Hitachi to AMK you need a software upgrade so beware.
I just rebuilt my hitachi.

Where underneath is it @lynall ?

On the D3 its under the car somewhere @lynall will know. Finding a garage to rebuild it maybe a challenge. Don't know if @kurtjohnson10 has branched out to doing the newer compressors yet? Kits are available from many places I got mine from X8R but you need to know what you have first.
