I feel this is the best plan, but check the towball down weight thigy as you don't want the police pulling you.
They other thing I thought of was bolt wheels and a tow bar to the mower so it becomes a trailer.
I do feel a proper trailer is the best plan.
Storage is an issue but one of my old large trailers was at a friends house for 5 years as he used it quite a lot so I bought it he stored it so he had a free trailer and I didn't have a storage issue.

I assume this is for a job?
Have you not considered renting some ones garage?
Many old people have a empty garage so you do the garden in exchange for use of the garage?
I still feel a trailer is the best solution

I would vouch for the 'rack on the tower' approach. I have a Thule version, which I bought to take a large trolley that the family take for luging camping gear at Glastonbury. It sits on the back of the car with the trolley in it. loaded with tents and camping equipment. I have put 4 25Kg bales of haulage on it (I think it's rated at 160 Kg load).

I've got a petrol powered Flymo, which is very light and would fit in the back of a 90 easily. It doesn't pick up the cuttings though.....

Mine's a 2 stroke, the newer ones are 4 stroke and much heavier. I bought mine 2nd hand off e-bay.

Hmm sounds great, except I really need to be able to pick up the cuttings , going to re-think the roller option and maybe trawl round some garden machinery/garden centres to see what's what ...I want to be able to get the best finish - cut wise - that I can , I don't want to have to trade Betsy for a van

but I do need to be able to shift it round on me lonesome, I'll know a bit more hopefully in a couple of weeks when the MOD should tell me if our allocated married quarter has a garage or not, we've put in for one, but that doesn't mean diddly to them.

Apologies - lied about the capacity (not intentionally) - 45Kg (which is a mobility scooter, apparently, so a lawnmower should be fine. A Hayter Spirit 41 Lawnmower weighs 29 Kg according to their website.

Which is the mower I'd like ....just need to eat more spinach ...then i could just throw it in the back of the 90

I think ramps will still be your best bet. That carrier is just asking for someone to rear-end you/ you reverse your lovely mower into a wall. Plus you'd be tripping over it every time you'd go to get something from the back.
2 lengths of 18mm ply the length of the rear would be fine. You'd need to get a Honda or Hayter with a blade clutch so you could drive it up the ramp with the blade not spinning! ( in my opinion the Honda will give you a lot less grief than the Hayter!).
