This happened in Lakenheath this weekend. It's just awful. It's thought that the two idiots on the dirt bike probably aren't local. Please, can I ask all of my Fb friends to share, and to keep their eyes open for somebody with access to a bike like the one described who has recently injured their arm? Thankyou.

"URGENT APPEAL FOR HELP regarding our dog Jasper who was killed Saturday 12.08.17

My name is Margaret and I live with my fiancé, Chris, on Woodlands Estate in Lakenheath. Early Saturday evening we, with our best friends, took our 4 dogs and our friends’ dog for a quick walk on the warren before going to get fish and chips and enjoy a night watching a film, we went up there in our car. Jasper, as is his way, rolled in some poop during the walk so we agreed that myself and my friend would drive the two elderly dogs home via the chippy and Chris and my friend’s husband would walk the other three dogs home, including smelly Jasper, so he could be cleaned up before I got back home with the fish and chips.

Chris took the route from the warren down the track to the Turkey Farm and then down the other track heading to Woodlands. There was a “dirt” bike / motor cross bike (believed to be a Honda CRF 125) in the vicinity on the tracks / fields who we now know had been giving grief to the owner of the land. By this time Chris, our friend and the 3 dogs were ¾ of the way home down the track. Apparently after an exchange with the farmer the bike took off down the track at very high speed heading in the direction of Chris, our friend and the dogs. The bike was a white bike with red on it. There were two white male teenagers on the bike, with no helmets or protection etc. Chris and our friend heard them coming so Chris went to our nearest dog, Budi, to put him on his lead, our other two dogs, Jasper and Loki, were the otherside of the hedge where Jasper was pursuing his favourite hobby of looking for sticks. Our friend was on the track and Chris was with Budi in the field just off the track where he had run caused by the panic in Chris’ voice. The bike was travelling at such high speed there was no time to do anything for the other two dogs and Chris was praying that Jasper and Loki would stay in the hedge. The bike would have clearly seen our friend on the track and Chris and Budi in the field but didn’t slow down at all. The bike drew level with them and just at that moment Jasper ran out of the hedge closely followed by Loki. Jasper’s little body took the full impact of the bike which literally ran straight over him. The rider and passenger was thrown off the bike as the bike summersaulted over Jasper and it came to a halt on the track. The ground on the track is dug up where this happened. The passenger landed badly on his arm and screamed that his arm was broken, Chris can remember screaming at him that never mind his arm he had just killed our dog. Rider and passenger got themselves together in seconds, back on the bike and roared off shouting back for Chris not to report them. The bike raced to the bottom of the track where there was a third youth waiting. They took off in the direction of Wingfield Avenue. I don’t know how Loki avoided being hit as well as he was literally seconds behind Jasper. Our friend got Loki and Budi and Chris scooped up Jasper’s limp bleeding body and ran for home, Chris knew Jasper was dead, his spine was clearly broken straight through. For Jasper to have survived that impact would have been a miracle.

Jasper died instantly, thankfully with no pain or knowledge, but his two brothers witnessed everything and are very badly shaken up.

Jasper, Budi, Loki and our elderly dog Tedi are all rescue dogs. Jasper, in particular, had a very traumatic start to his life. Luckily for him he was taken in by Wiccaweys Border Collie Rescue Centre who worked with him for nearly or just over a year, I think, and we were extremely lucky to be able to have him from the rescue centre. However, it took Chris and I another year or so to get him used to normal life. He was terrified of everything, and I mean terrified. We had to get him used to cars, the hoover, the TV, everything. To this day certain things set him off in panic mode, the strangest thing being the dishwasher. We can only assume wherever he was kept originally had a dishwasher nearby and the sound brought back those bad memories. Jasper grew in confidence with us and with his brothers, who later joined him in our home. Jasper loved to play stick, chew on bones and his party trick was to howl like a wolf, which he would do when certain records played. He was / is the light of our lives and the leader of our little pack of dogs. That light has gone out. How do we cope from here, how will the other dogs cope from here – I don’t know. Loki was extremely close to Jasper and is literally searching for Jasper, in our home, when we go for a walk, even looking in the car. It is heart breaking. He is very clingy and went off his food for a few days. It is bad enough dealing with our own feelings let alone helping Loki cope without his big brother.

Some people might say Jasper was only a dog and to those people I would say Jasper could have been you, your son or daughter or a friend or neighbour’s child. That bike could easily have taken our friend out. The motorbike problem is getting out of hand, bikes come up our road all the time to get on the tracks. The youths speed and have no helmets or safety clothing on. Most of the youths we have encountered have been extremely polite to us and stop what they are doing to let us pass with our dogs, they are conscious of the dogs, but not this pair on this white and red dirt bike.

How you can help – this is a small village and someone must know these youths, especially if one has a damaged arm. I need justice for Jasper and we need to stop other injuries being caused. This could have been a fatal injury on a child.

We aren’t on Facebook but have been told about what is on there and we would like to thank everyone for all their help, it is so appreciated. The leads which have come out of Facebook have been followed up by the Police, who I have to say have been brilliant, very sympathetic and desperate to help us. The messages we have received from them have been so kind. The bike has vanished and the riders can’t be traced, but the Police assure me their investigations are ongoing. I am not holding out much hope of finding the teenagers now. I told the Police I wanted to sit down with the youths and talk to them about the consequences of their actions. I wanted them to know about Jasper and to explain to them why he deserved to live a full happy life. I wanted them to know about how it has broken Loki and devastated us, our best friends and other friends. I also wanted them to learn from it and understand that they could have killed a child if the circumstances had been different.

If your children have bikes please let them read this and explain that they must ride sensibly and be conscious of the environment and the people / animals in it. We don’t want kids to stop having fun.

A criminal offence has taken place and we need to get information to the Police. PC Adam Benton is helping us with this matter. His number is PC 1983. The crime reference number is 37/54341/17. If you can help in any way please call 101 ask to speak to / leave a message for Adam and quote the reference number.

Thank you for reading this, as I said I don’t do Facebook (I don’t understand the technology) but I know it can help in situations like this.

Please do something for Jasper, who instead of on Sunday morning being in his basket next to our bed looking forward to a day on the beach with his brothers, was lying on our dining room floor, wrapped tightly in a sheet in a plastic bin bag to contain the blood which had been seeping out of his mouth since his death, luckily we manged to get him cremated on Sunday morning.

Some good has to come out of Jasper’s death so let’s educate our youths about the dangers to themselves and others when they are out on their bikes.

Thank you.

Margaret"

Cheers

Well i haven't liked yet post but I hope they get caught. Maybe try AG for more "traction"

I agree. Wouldn't expect too much from Norfolk police, but hope for the best.

I think Margaret would get a better response if she came on lz herself and posted it in AG.

Hope the perps get nicked in due course.

One of the guys did indeed break his arm, and as a result the police were able to trace him through the hospital system. And as a result he got knicked. When I find out the outcome I will post it up as well - it was in fact me who posted it up on AT in the first place.

This is just one example of of possible outcomes of illegal bikes riding at speed - a problem which is significant in Kings and Thetford Forest , and one that Norfolk Police and Forestry are working hard at clamping down on, as well as illegal 4x4 use in the same areas.....

Forget thoughts of educating this scum. They are simply vermin and always will be.

The slap on the wrist that they may not even get from your local plod won't change them.

The only positive here the broken arm, shame it wasn't his neck though.

the little twunt needs running over in my defender then reversing over then repeat till mush oxygen wasting ****wit.
