Where should the power steering reservoir and ignition coil sit on a D1 3.9V8?

I have removed an awful cone filter and fitted a proper airbox.

The power steering reservoir was mounted on a home made bracket where the air box should sit, and the ignition coil seems to be stopping the air box sit down properly. The airflow sensor is about an inch above its bracket.

Is the ignition coil in the right place on the flat of the wheel arch?
Where is the correct home for the PS reservoir? It is now cable tied to the filter box!

Thanks

The coil and the amplifier to the right (n/side) of the radiator and the reservoir just behind.

Hey mark is yours a 3.5?!

If so, that's the normal position for the coil!

The pas reservoir is bolted onto the slam panel, look just to the right of where the radiator bolt is, and there are 2 holes close together.

It goes there.

Someone might have moved it to fit twin batteries, I fastened mine to the radiator bracket for the same reason :)

Hmm

You have the early type washer bottle too.

Does your car have a 300 type interior/exterior?

What year is it? Could be a changeover model

The coil is DEFO in the correct position with that type of washer bottle.

OHHH silly I just checked your other thread

Yours is a 200 shape 3.9 changeover vehicle!

So the coil is ok and just mount pas on the two small holes near the headlight :)

With that type of airbox the two sticky outy bits at the bottom locate in two holes just forward of the wheel arch, then it pushes down onto two grommet things that locate in two large holes towards the back of the airbox.

you need the round airbox, unless you make that one fit, which wont be too difficult

but the coil is in the way of it

which is why they moved it for the 300 shapes :)

Bugger!

I think I'll either elongate the existing mounting holes for the coil, or drill some new ones an inch or so back. That way I don't have to bugger about with wires.

Thank you all for the info.

EDIT - or weld in some good metal to the arch then put it where I want. I should probably do that!

That's it Mr Noisy, finally got there.
Stating the model year also in the opening post would have helped. :)
Now we know it's a 200 series 3.9 1993-1994MY (300 series arrived with the 1995MY) the position of the coil is correct and as u say the round tubular style of air filter is required, it's all very similar to the 3.5RR I had.

Interesting, I didn't know there were variations within the 3.9. I thought the 200/300 was just a trim level.

Basically 200 shapes were 3.5

Until they stopped making 3.5s and made 3.9s but still had 200s left so they put them in there

Similar thing my pal has a 98S 3.9 D1

It has the later seat boxes which are for D2 seats, it has a D2 steering wheel, and a 3.9 Hotwire engine but with 10 bolt heads same as D2 engines

So again, parts were coming through before they stopped making the vehicle model...
