power steering problems

hi all does any one have any advise they could share
i have a 1998 freelander 2.0 l series diesel and i have just changed the power steering pump as the lugs were broken on the water pump end causing the pump not to turn resulting car overheating. now all changed waterpump turning, car not overheating but power steering lumpy also when the ps cap is of the ps fluid bubbles up and overflows. i have tryed turning wheel lock to lock but with no change so does anybody have any ideas???

Hi,
Not done the FL but on the Rangy when my PS unit (great big three bolt monster) was replaced had to run the engine for quite a while with wheels off ground going lock to lock to get the bubbles out. Don't seem to be a way of bleeding other than to circulate the fluid around until the air pumps out. That is assuming that there is no fresh air getting sucked in?
Running for a bit then letting the bubbles settle and then repeating seems best - give it time for the froth to work it's way out between running. Worked for me - might work for you?
