I've got ACE on my car and I just checked the level and it's black; doesn't quite seem right to me. What colour should it be?

I believe that the recommended fluid, STC50519, Cold Climate Fluid is a green colour when it's new and clean.

Mine is black as well, I was thinking the same " didn't seem right" so I'm glad to hear that it's nothing to sweat about!

id think it is , dirty oil isnt good id change it ,even though it might be common

Is it easy to change, never really thought about changing it, always worried about opening a bigger can of worms

not easy to change it completely but you can empty reservoir and refill it , if you do it several times the more you change,if you do it once a year or so it keeps systems oil fresh

Also I've seen these additives that supposedly seal leaks in the system, I've a very slight leak coming from the steering box, so I may be an opportunity to use that when I refill
