I am writing this while waiting for a breakdown truck

I was driving on a straight road with no issues. I then went round a round about and the disco would not accelerate out of it. With my foot flat to the floor I managed to get it to about 50 but it then started to slow. I found the nearest turning where I could safely stop but by that time the disco was slowing even with my foot to the floor. As soon as I came to a stop the engine died.
To cut a long story short...
The engine did not over heat.
The aa did not find any fault codes
It has a new injector loom
There is no oil in the ecu
It feels like 2 injectors are not working
The engine will start but is very very lumpy
I have tried the fuel purge and injector purge
The maifold temps on cylinders 1 and 2 are half that of 3, 4 and 5
About a week ago I could smell diesel as I walked past the disco.

From extensive research while board waiting for recovery it appears tatch the symptoms of a faulty fuel pump?
It's done 125,000 which I am lead to believe is about right for a pump failure?
Any other surgestion for me to try when I get home

Many thanks

Can't heat the pump at the moment but I'm still say at the side of the A47 with lorry's thundering past,
Would it still start if the pump was not running?
It will start but has no power to drive more than a crawl...

Had similar issues over the years, TD5 startes (just), runs for a while, then miss fires and eventually dies - pressure regulator has failed and it can leak fuel, hence the smell. I've used OEM complete regulators, second hand ones and the latest attempt is just the regulator. This is working OK, still have issues if less than a quarter tank of fuel with air in the system. Check ebay for the regulator.

in this case IF the air bleed valve is ruled out the problem lays within the pump cos it has a non-return valve which can be affected by dirt and doesnt close well:
"Fuel pump
....
A non-return valve is located in the base of the housing. When the fuel tank is full, fuel pressure keeps the valve lifted
from its seat allowing fuel to flow into the swirl pot. As the tank level reduces, the fuel pressure in the tank reduces
causing the valve to close. When the valve is closed fuel is retained in the swirl pot, ensuring that the swirl pot remains
full and maintains a constant supply to the fuel pump."

... or with the tank's breather system, i've seen twice this thing so worth a check under the car, that "loop" pointed with the arrow used to choke in time then there will be a depression in the tank when the fuel gets low

Thanks for the advice so far. As soon as it stops chucking it down I will have a check of the bits mentioned and update....

Just had a listen and can't hear a thing from the back. There is a faint buzz / hum from the dash just behind the key but that's all. Even tried the fuel purge and could not hear anything.

Then the pump is gone... though rule out the fuse and relay just to make sure... engine bay fusebox F10, R1 (swap it with R3=headlamp wash for test)

Now installing a new fuel pump. After struggling with the damn retaining ring I was juSt wondering g how tight to tighten it?

When I replaced mine it was a bit of a contortion holding the pump down with my knee as I did up the locking ring, once it's started I tapped it round with a small hammer and screwdriver till it stopped but doubt you can go too far or over tighten it. Don't forget to fit the rubber seal to the tank not the pump.
