Hello All,
Long-time luker, first time poster.
So, I have a 2006 Freelander 1 TD4 with 95K on the clock & despite the level of stick the Freelander range endures, I am very pleased with mine and to be honest happy to learn more when things go wrong, (example ABS sensors & Diff mounts failing)
Any way, earlier today I noticed a lack in power going up hill under 2,500 RPM, felt and sounded like the Turbo was not engaging, also worth noting that if I switched the engine off and started it again Turbo kicks in which I understand makes sense given it resets it self, I live in the rural France at the top of a 13% 1km climb so any power loss dose not go unnoticed,
I used my iCarsoft reader to get the Fault Code P1470, confirming a Turbo problem, possibly a solenoid issue (?)
Just now, coming back from a walk, as soon as I hit 3,000 RPM going up hill BOOM! engine warning light EDIT with explanation mark (!)
limp mode engaged, also what can only be described as a low pitch wiring sound coming from the engine almost like a old train approaching a platform, after a few minutes back on the flat warning light is off and power is back, on the flat at 3,000 RPM plus no problem and from what I can hear the Turbo is engaging.
From what I can read mostly on LZ, all the above is pointing saying that Turbo gate(s) are not opening / functioning and the pressure is building to the point where the ECU takes over and enters limp mode in-order to protect itself, I could also be talking total ****e.
Bare with me here, I recorded a live session just now and just as she entered limp mode I got these numbers:
AirFlow = 741.20 mg/str
Manifold Pressure = 163.50 kPa
Low Pressure 347.40
High Pressure Rail 90070.64 kPa
Fuel Pressure Regulator Current = 1.84
I have no idea what they mean, but included them in-case they mean something to someone else.
Given the price of parts in France I often source them myself and then take it to the local garage.
Outside of replacing the Turbo solenoid which I am happy to do myself, is there anything other part that
fails causing the above issues ?
Or perhaps known issues with the Turbo it self, have read that "levers" can get stuck and need freeing up.
I also have EGR bypass fitted.
Thank you and looking forward to hearing from you all . . .
