Howdy.
My front diff has a loose pinion bearing and a very badly leaking pinion seal (among others). It's buzzing away and generally sounding like it might suddenly lock up and explode sooner rather than later.
My disco is a 99 which I believe has the transfer case with the centre diff lock, although there's no lever inside to engage it.
Assuming it does have the splined shaft for a locker, Is it possible/harmful/advisable to lock the transfer case diff and remove the front propshaft temporarily?
Also is it possible to remove the half shafts and the diff carrier from the axle, cover the resulting holes and run in 2wd for a while while I fix up the diff?
Thanks for your advice!
