Freelander 1 Possible to do away with the VCU?

I've not seen a monthly debate on a centre lockable diff on a FL before, or a lockable rear...I tend to skip over the VCU stuff because I'm not talking about that component per se but alternative possibilities. I've no doubt the VCU works well when in good shape and thankfully mine is - my last weekends muddy laning excursion was testament to that.

I've not read before that the front and rear diffs have different ratios - that does make a huge difference to any potential plans. However a lockable rear diff has been suggested and seems an interesting prospect to consider - perhaps there's a third party one that can be used or adapted. Who's knows unless you explore it.

Thanks for your all for your input.

Does nothing that the Traction Control can't handle.
The Freelander diff' is/was also fitted in some rear wheel drive sports car, without the TC.

I believe this is why Quaife developed the LSD for the Freelander's diff in the first place ;)

It was Westfield and Caterham that used the Freelander diff, fast road/track day cars that would benefit from a LSD
