Hi All,

Has anyone any experience of POR-15 engine enamel? I have cleaned down my 200tdi - got it absolutely spotless with no trace of grease or oil....took ages! I applied a coat of POR-15 gold engine enamel expecting a great result, but looking at it this morning I am really disappointed. :(

Stains on the block are all showing through and coverage is really patchy. See pic below….you can see staining under the fuel lift pump and vacuum pump, and also the darker spots of old gold paint where I didn’t quite give enough elbow grease with the wire brush.

Do you have any advice?

Thanks,
Alan

contact the manufacturer- thought it was ment to be pigment rich colur

G-man, I used POR's marine clean degreaser - I have always found it to be excellent and the surface had no trace of grease or oil before painting. I used POR's metal ready for prep....again I've used this before with no probs. I wash down afterwards to remove any residuals, and then left the block to dry. It was bone dry when painted.

I always intended to give it two coats of paint, but based on the 1st coat performance I doubt if two coats will have any better effect. In terms of baking, I don't have an oven and it doesnt say anything on the tin to suggest it needed other than not to run the engine for a week until the paint has properly cured - would baking help this?

Fanatic, I good suggestion and I think I'll drop a note to the manufacturer and see what they say.

Cheers,
A

You ought to give it it's 2nd coat first. They will only say do that and then come back to us. It may be great with a 2nd coat.

I bought the tin off frost and they reckon it should have covered better first time. They're sending me a replacement tin which is great. I'll let you know how I get on.

Cheers,
A.
