I am replacing my cappings with some galv ones to replace rotting tub one
Could someone tell me the size and type of rivets I need to buy to replace all the cappings
Thanks

4.8mm Closed cap You'll need a big riveter anorl. Or bloody strong hands.

Ya can get the rivets on Ebay. Some of em even supply the right size drill bit. Will see if I can find the seller I got mine off, when I changed the cappings on the Heap.

Thanks for that bud
Is a straight forward easy job I've never done this before ,the replacement caps came with the truck when I bought it

Yes Roof and sides off. then drill out all the existing rivets. Use a heat gun to soften the sealant that's under the cappings and peel em off as you go. Replacement is simple just line cappings up by sticking half a doz loose rivets in the holes just to ensure everything lines up. I use everbuild PU40 (IIRC) to seal the cappings to the tub. Ya can get it in white grey black or brown & it's over paintable. Awesome stuff. Don't forget to get the seals or cut thin strips of camping mat to go on top of tub before refitting the sides.

Thanks ,I have a small hand lever riveter but don't think it will be up to the job .
Those riveters look beefy to me think I'll get the scissor type as not loads of cash this time of year

If you'd posted a few days ago I'd have brought mine up and left it with you. As we're in Redcar till the 28th.

Learning all the time didn't know I needed sealant for the cappings or for the sides
Thanks for all the info

I've done a few now, first one I did was a 90. The sealant was so good I destroyed the tub trying to get the feckers off. Had to buy a new tub.

As you say great learning experience. I always warm the feckers, now.. ;)

If you don't seal between sides and tub, they leak like feck

I need to do mine too at some point, and one thing I'm fearing is this...

Yes Roof and sides off. ....

Can I just unbolt the roof/sides and lift it up a bit, without removing the windscreen and such? Or do I need to remove the windscreen and take it all off? I understand I need to lift it enough to get the pop rivet gun in, at least. Probably more for comfort?!

Thanks!

(The car is a 90 hardtop, no interior)

if your windscreen has hinges you can undo fastener on the inside and pivot roof and screen ,if not you have to decide whether splitting roof from wind screen at the top is easier than taking roof and screen off as a piece ,screen to roof can be tricky to get resealed, but either way youd want new seals

Brilliant! Thanks! :)
