Poor phone connection

I have a Range Rover Vouge 2007
My phone iPhone X connects perfectly and sounds ok in the car, but
the person on the end of the call gets lots of echo and can hear themselves !!
Any ideas or advice

That is nothing to do with your vehicle. That’s a feedback loop being made. If you have them coming out of your speakers then your phones microphone will pick that up and feed it back to them.

Well, the loser with the sound technology degree in me would say you simply stop having speakers loud enough to go through into the microphone on the phone. It shouldn’t be too much of an issue as most phones use a couple of microphones in order to shift phase and act as noise/feedback cancellation.

The way I would deal with it with my actual microphones would be to not allow them to receive whatever is coming out of a speaker. That’ll be more difficult with a car cab but idk when it comes to cars I drive an old series.

It’s basic in principle, if you have a phone that can hear the sound from the speakers it’s obviously going to echo it back.

Have you got it connected via Bluetooth? Or a mini jack?

In general I’d suggest repositioning the phone or turning down the speakers

I connect through Bluetooth , so if I put the phone in the arm rest it should cut it down in essence?.
 
Do they get lots of echos and hear themselves on a normal conversation, or just on the phone?
Maybe there's a bit of lag over the Bluetooth connection, try a different phone and/or turn the volume down
 
Ok we have a 2011.pair to the car with Bluetooth. So guessing same/similar tech.
I have phoned M many times while she was driving (phone probably in handbag/centre cubby on charge).
The speaker/mic have nothing to do with the phone mic/speaker.
I have never experienced any echo.nor anybody else mentioned it (I phone 6). Incoming call comes from car speakers. Mic is in the center light console above(?)

How long has it been going on? Was it ok till you changed your phone? Have you had any work done recently?

I have no idea why the problem, I can talk with M and passengers and hear them all without problem.

I would agree with @marjon. Once paired the phone should treat the car kit like a headset i.e. external speaker and mic so should mute its own speaker and mic.
You should be able to put the phone in a sound proof box and it should still work. I would try moving the phone as far away from the car as possible and try it then. I have taken calls in the car while parked on the drive and the phone in the house. If you still get an echo then it's a problem with feedback as @Trench Rat says. If the echo stops then the iPhone isn't switching off its internal mic.
 
It's not a handset location problem. The handset mic & speakers are bypassed when in bluetooth mode, so the call only requires the bluetooth radio to be in range. Most likely the LR bluetooth system needs updating.

FYI my iPhoneX works perfectly on handsfree in every car I tried (although never tried in L322).
 
Unrelated to your specific issue but to confirm what a BT phone connection to a car is meant to do, the phone provides the GSM connection, the car Audio solution provides everything else.
My wife's Mini Cooper All4 (BMW in disguise) has perfect phone audio and controls while the phone is in her handbag in the passenger footwell and she is driving and gabbing to me.
Its your L322 that's the issue, not the phone.
 
So eliminate the phone/car
Try a friends phone of a totally different type. Or fire up an old one.

You think that's bad, what about some on here who have mounted their phones/screens/whateverthe**** into the space above the stereo?!
Like watchin TV while driving! Nightmare for other road users!:mad:
and they're making cars like that these days whilst prosecuting for using a phone. Doesn't make sense. Rant rave etc etc

Far too many light emitting devices in the dash of new cars, not good for night driving.
