Hey everyone,

I've got a really annoying minor issue, well minor at the moment anyway. Pretty much every morning, I wait for the glow light to go out, the car will start, however once started the revs/needle drops to near stall revs, as in it vibrates the car as it's nearly going to stall but Then the needle just shoots back up after about a second to normal revs again, like nothing has happened!?

I'll go to start it again and it won't do it at all, unless it's cold. Is this just me overthhinking, is it normal because the engine is cold?

Any ideas?? Thanks?!!

And your vehicle is?

hi

hope u don't mind me asking

have u done , checked the fuel pump , filter , crankcase, air filter etc

think i'd check

glow plugs and their wiring-connections / relay ..
coolant sensor and its wiring connections

maybe the air-intake temp. sensor and its connections
although a.f.a.i.k. for starting the ecu uses coolant temperature

i.e. at first .. untill the engine warms up
the ecu provides more fuel to be injected ..
and that will be governed by coolant temperature and air-intake temperature ( sensors )
( if a scangaugeII or similar is connected ..
( one can see the litres-per-hour consumption figure in real time ..

if there's and abundance of white smoke at startup it might point to the glow plugs not working properly

another thing to check would be the fuel-rail sensor and its connections

why i type 'connections' is that some of those sensors rely on very small voltages ..
and a bit of dirt or corrossion could block a small voltage .. till the current becomes enough
to overcome it ..

as for coolant temp .. i know my dashboard gauge doesn't register anything untill the coolant reaches about 40C
( the temperature sensors are basicly resistors that change resistance when the temp. changes
( google 'temperature sensors' to find out how they operate ..

above suggestions are based on the assumtion that the fuel system is in good working order :)
( excluding the possibilty of dirt on the fuel rail sensor plug/socket )

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
and bypass egr valve??
yeah .. good idea ..
Shove some decent injector cleaner in it
+1 to that ..
i'd go for regular 'diesel rhino' usage ..
( google it as it's only available online )
