Rave is just a series of PDF documents that can be read on any device.

They are usually combined into a single "deliverable" / "package" / file though. The file is usually an ISO format (eg a file called rave.iso) which should also be portable to various platforms. Just Google how to use ISO images on what ever operating system you are using. ISO files are basically an image/copy of a disk drive that can be copied and moved around as a single file - when you get the file to where you want to use it - you run a program that will either burn the disk to a CD or treat the file as a new drive by itself.

There is a Windows .exe file in the rave deliverable - but I believe it just opens the PDF documents.

oh yeah .. i forgot about virtual windows apps :)
be the only time i think about 'windows' when i've tried to access the rave-discs and the like

think i'll look for a less-expensive stand apart windows computer
so i can keep my mac free of windows malware 'n other pc oriented nasties ..

ok .. cheers :)

tbh i'm not so up to date with what mac osx can .. or cannot .. do ..
sort of got stuck at os.9 with a now older machine ..
get tired of having to re-learn stuff for a new system update ..
i used to be good at old versions of photoshop etc etc ..
but sooooo many features on up-to-date versions 'n not enough time or motivation to learn again

sort of like going into a big food supermarket .. hungry and stoned ..
so so many choices ..

used to be right into graphics / art work / music production once ..
these days have lost interest ..
ho hum ..
:)

lol, :)

I think Virtualbox for mac needs OS X 10.6 .... it would be fine if your mac supported it as the whole system is sandboxed.
Anyway, for the stuff we use - rave and the Electronics Parts Catalogue etc, a cheap XP laptop would be great.
The rave will run on anything really (windows) - but the only EPC 'available' needs access to a 16bit subsystem so you need XP or, a later machine that supports virtualisation. An XP laptop should be picked up for peanuts I would think and would run all the LR stuff no worries.
It might be hard to get used to an OS that actually works well though - instead of the MAC (Mine Always Crashes)

That winols site is interesting - thanks for the link !. good reading.

Digging deeper into the ventilation issues and using the microcat EPC program with my specific VIN, I found a superb diagram of the complete passenger side assembly. (enclosed)
It would appear also that vehicles up to YA999999 with A/C have this system and no pollen filter.
You can clearly see the recirc flap and servo on this.

When the endoscope camera arrives I will get some images on the android tablet from inside the unit to estimate blockage etc. (the illuminated 7mm endoscope camera unit is less than £10 ! on ebay) - it is complete with 1.5 mtrs of cable so can be sent right into the whole vent system.
Any crap in the evap unit fins would also cause poor a/c performance as well. !

re. ISO's 'n macs ..
according to google i should be able to 'mount' them with macs 'disc utility' app
( part of the system since day 1 )
so last night clicked on Grumpy's iso download link
something flew into my downloads folder
i go into said folder .. find file .. and try to open it
no go ..
trashed the file
tried again .. no go .. trashed the file ..

later on .. went to shutdown computer ..
'quit' the safari web browser ..
to be informed .. can't quit as a download is in progress
it then shows me 2 action bars in progress linked to Grumpy's link :-/
so i'll try again 'n wait 'till the data has been properly downloaded ..
and open up the downloads progress view window as well
( at least i learn't something re certain types of downloads ) .. ;)

The ISO simply will not work on the mac as it was designed for windows - well - more correctly - the iso is simply a disk format - it is what is on it that is important.
The windows programs just will not run.
The rave program is based on an exe and pdf files - but attempting to pull individual pdf files out of it is not feasible really.
:)

There are lots of PDFs in there - but they could be renamed to be meaningful.

However, they required an Acrobat Plug-In to be viewed (and probably a password). The ISO image has a full Acrobat Reader installation on it, together with the required Plug-In(s).

Those Plug-Ins are binary - and therefore won't run on MAC.

I only just found this out - I thought they were just 'normal' PDFs.

I thought I'd open a manual and print it using a PDF Print Driver to save it to a PDF that doesn't require the plugin or password. However, it fails to create the PDF! This is the first time the PDF Print Driver I use (PDF995) has failed to output something and I can only think that it is the Acrobat Reader detecting its trying to output a PDF and therefore screwing it up. It all seams "locked down" so you have to use the package as delivered by Rover.

I had a quick look in te executable to see if I could pick out a plain password. I couldn't find anything, but did find this....

Please enter the CD access password issued to you by Railtrack Group Standards.
If you do not know the password, please contact S&SD Enquiry Desk on 085 78774 (020 7557 8774)

Feck knows what Landies have to do with Railtrack!

I've lost interest/run out of time now - might look at it later.

Sheesh, bloody foreigners ... :D
Heres why - this one is testing out the proposed HS2 rail line... do you know nothing ??
