Hi, just wondered if anyone could help me out as i dont know which way to turn anymore. I have a freelander td4 2004. End of last year i had let the fuel run right down and when i tried to take my children to school it was bumping while i was driving and then lost power. my foot was on the floor but i was going nowhere. Put some more fuel in and it picked up for a bit then i noticed the fuel pump was screaming and the engine malfunction light came on. My garage replaced my filter and fuel pump, again it picked up for a bit but the new pump started screaming. My husband took it to a landrover specialist who put it on a machine and said it was the turbo. Got the turbo sorted. The malfunction light went out and everything seemed fine. Now 6 months later its all started again, taking my children to school this morning and i could feel it juddering a bit and my fuel pump was even louder (does not come on and off just buzzes really loud continuosly but got louder for some reason), went and put some more diesel in and it seemed better until tea time when i can now feel it juddering again. If any one has had anything like this or know what it could be please help as i do not want to go through all that again and spend all that money for 6 months down the line it to start again. Thank you

Fuel lines and replace filter. There is also a filter as the fuel leaves the fuel tank i believe. Was probably not done because its a ball ache to do

If you as in the td4 section of freelander bit you might get a definitive answer. I don't have a freelander myself but remember a similar question being posted

wondering what your garage replaced the fuel pump with ..
the original bosch version .. or a cheaper aftermarket job
as the latter evidently don't last very long ..

and .. something i read recently about electronic lift pumps for vehicles ..
is that a fuel tank less than half full gives the lift pump a harder time of it ..

when was the sedimenter last drained ?
hopefully it was done when the filter 'n pump was changed ..
anyhow .. it should be drained regularly ..
i.e. it's supposed to separate the water/sediment from the fuel .. where there's water.. there's no lubrication .. so fuel pumps and injectors would wear out quicker ..
to combat water-in-fuel .. use 'diesel rhino' ( google it ) .. and add some two stroke oil
to the fuel as an added precaution .. 200ml per tankful ..

probably best to keep the fueltank more than half full ..
or put another way .. best not to run a diesel on the last dregs of the fuel tank ..

A poor quality filter could be a hidden enemy in your engine | Diesel Injectors UK

if you find out it is the electric fuel lift low-pressure pump that's the problem
be sure to replace it with the original bosch version ..
if not .. and a cheaper one is used .. prepare to replace it sooner rather than later
