please help guy's, possible clutch or box

hi guy's, im desperate for help, i was driving along busy a1 last week when all of a sudden car started slowing down, wouldnt go into any gear, just kept in neutral, clutch pedal has normal movement, gear box feels no different, can still clutch and feels like its going into gear but feels like its not in gear, also starter motor went at exactly same time so can not start it, cant bump it as it seems to stay in neutral, should also mention that for a few weeks i noticed a noise which i assume is clutch release bearing failure, when on clutch its not there but when off clutch in neutral its louder, any help would be great as i need it for work, just worried it could cost loads, heard it could be clutch or driveshafts, i jacked one side up and could spin front left wheel no problems, as no prop fitted,then did same on right and it spins front right ok,thanks

clutch plate center torn out ,clutch will work as normal but give no drive to gearbox fit full kit plus hd release arm

you think this is a certain mate, so if i give it to someone and just say change clutch it should sort it out, thanks for the reply

what vehicle exactly and with no prop fitted presumable you have it in difflock

its a freelander 50th edition xedi 2.0 td
rear prop off as i only have it on in winter when snow stops me getting to work, hopefully i am prolonging the life of coupling, ird and diff by only using it in 4 wheel drive for 3 months of the year, however this problem needs sorting this week, so you reckon clutch for sure, i'll order one now, would this have an effect on starter motor or u reckon its just a coincidence. thanks for quick reply

sorry didnt read heading was looking on lz live ,jack both wheels up spin one other should spin the other way if diff working and drivce shafts in tact will help in high gear even if clutch gone and no engine to endure drive goes thru diff to other wheel and not lost thru gear box whats up with starter ,jamming ,not engaging

starter started making funny noise, rac man hit it several times and it eventually started but now it doesnt even turn over, nothing when u turn key, just clicks, i cant get both wheels up at same time which is why i jacked one side up, with wheel in the air it turns easy and turns the propshaft but its not hard to turn, u can spin it by hand easily, the same for the other side, is that normal or should it have resistance against the opposite wheel?, they both spin the propshaft.

hi it definitly sounds like clutch and as for starter they are easy to repair you can get the kit of EBay from a place in Cannock Staffs you have to take the battery out as well as the battery holder and there is a bolt under there that goes through to the stater motor thats 3 bolts in all and you need to take the wiring of the parts are in the solinoid just follow the instuctions they give you cost about a £10 if i remember right

thanks for the second opinion mate, ive already had a kit to fix the starter last year, but figured as its gone a second time i'll take the oportunity to replace for a brand new part, so starter and clutch kit ordered today, anything else i should be changing while all this work is getting done? what was the hd arm mentioned earlier?

just check the thin wire going to the starter if thi has broke/come off it will click as you say!!!! i know as it happend to me
