Can someone help me please? I have a 99 Freelander 3 dr 1.8 hardtop. The key fob turns on and off the alarm. It also opens the tailgate but you need the key to open and close the driver and passenger door. Is this something I could fix or am I in trouble?

Just got mine fixed faulty door latch and receiver was fukd some moisture in roof space caused it to fail,

if it turns the alarm off and on then it sounds as though the battery in it is ok but is your battery on the car ok I know it sounds daft buy if you have a low battery then the door actuators will not be so good ,or there is a fault in the system, hope this helps

Ive had bot most recent was bat failed droptest but ive had it where fob battery was low and wouldnt unlock but it did the alarm maybe only sending half a sivnal or somthing who knows..

Check the batterys water levels if its that type and make sure terminals are tigh not corroded etc on mine i was getting the driver lock half open on one push then all open on the second push(single point entry) new battery for the van fixed it.

Have you EVEN tried the search field at the top of the page. This subject has been covered a thousand times............

The guys asking for some advice, why do you want to whing about it is there a rule saying you cant ask again?

Some of us get tired of repeating ourselves, over and over again!!
It also makes for a very disjointed and hard to follow repair route for others using the search tab ;)

Ok Moonrover.
1st off, you need to eliminate the remote fob 'lock" button.
So first test is to check the boot is locked when the doors should be. The boot works completely differently to the doors. If the boot won't open, the fault is most likely to be the door lock motors.
If the boot still opens when it should be locked then the best place to start is the remote fobs, the microswitches under the buttons do fail over time.

if no one asked a question there wouldnt be a forum but a list of questions and answers instead, if anyones tired of repeating themselves then just simply ignore the thread and dont comment..
or at least do something usefull like post the link to the thread
thats already there if ya know where it is.

Why not just have a look at the thread, if you dont have anything interesting or funny to say scroll down to next thread and try again, its easy. Stop whinging and bitching about it being covered before, like i mentioned earlier the OP was a request for information from some like minded owners about a fairly frustrating issue and all he/she gets is pish from you dick
