EDC is for the 2.5 diesel engine.
GEMS is the V8 petrol from 95-99
Motronic is the V8 from 99 onwards.

You can tell if your is gems or motronic by looking in the engine bay:
Gems
Motronic

Hi again,

This to many will be a really stupid question but please be kind after all I'm still learning.

Looking at the Nanocom here Nanocom Evo Only £399.00 + Shipping | Diesel performance tuning and economy remap chip tuning for Landrover Defender Discovery TD5 Puma TDV6 TDV8

Can someone tell me the difference between the EDC, GEMS and MOTRONIC options?

Many thanks
Tom

You are better buying direct fromm www.blackbox-solutions.com the manufacturers of the Nanocom Evo.:)

I have noticed that most reviews on blackbox solutions go to the favour of faultmate msv-2 extreme if my **** memory is right slightly higher cost but it will do a lot more than the nanocam will do ..and when my beautiful clever wife ?? "just in case she reads this " xxxx gives me a donation then i shall be buying the faultmate ,,,cheers

God dam it so many decisions, what do you do for the best? Datatek, is it cheaper buying direct?
Why go through a middle man when you can buy from the manufacturer?
The Faultmate MSV2 is undoubtedly the best, limited functionality available without a laptop but laptop needed full use. Fits in the glove box for emergencies. VIN locked to one vehicle but will support 2 more vehicles for additional licence fee's or you can go full multi vehicle if you have the cash.
Nanocom is compact with it's own colour touch screen, no laptop needed or supported. Covers the same things as the Faultmate but on a very small screen. Not locked to one vehicle. Good enough for most DIY applications.:)
The Faultmate has one more trick up it's sleeve, with the very expensive SM035 software module, it allows "Direct Access" to the BECM off the car and will unlock a locked BECM among other things.:)

Ahh thank you Datatek faultmate it is then!! Sorry for the late reply I've had the man flu and needed to catch up on other things.. But your help is appreciated and as always is sound advise!
