If the wife likes it that much then second hand engine is an easy option as said already who rebuilt the turbo as that may be the cause of the demise of the engine but they probably have a get out clause!
I reckon £800-1000 and your back on the road inc buying an engine new belts, filters, oil, antifreeze and labour

Definitely worth repairing with a second hand engine.
