the missis has just remembered she put petrol in the L series tank 2 questions,
1 if i drain the tank and the small left amount in the lines will that be really bad?
2 is there a drain plug on the tank or will hose pipe fit down the filler?

10% mix won't do any harm. If more than that...well....
Are you in the AA? They have a specialist fuel squad these days.
If not, and if not been driven, then yes..drain tank and filter etc, refill and cross fingers!
Most newer cars now have a drain plug because of the frequency of this particular act of vehicular lunacy

20quid in to empty tank she did drive it but not enough to get to the engine but i think theres an anti syphon on, i cant get bubbles when i blow evem tho the hose is wet looks a big expense then
TUT..

There should be a drain/sedimenter under the rear wheel-arch near the fuel pump/filter gizmo holder - meant for draining water out of the system.

£20 is only 14 litres or so - so not a problem to fill 3 small cans.

I wouldn't worry about getting every last drop out.

Put in a 500ml of 2-Stroke oil and fill to the brim with best grade diesel - Shell V-Power Nitro or similar.

I'm pretty sure you'll get away with it -assuming it hasn't been driven on pure petrol.

Good luck mate.

if there is not al lot of petrol in it put diesel in switch ignition on and pump round system with hand pump for a couple of minuets to move the petrol back to the tank

I wouldn`t be to paranoid about it
My wife put petrol in her Skoda Fabia TDi.
Ran it for 20 miles or so.
Kept saying the car was down on performance until it finally cut out on her on the way home.I towed it home with my trusty Freelander.
Jumped in the Fabia and it immediately started and ran fine, for about 7 mile.
It cut out again
.I removed the fuel filter and smelled petrol.
I removed the fuel from the tank and put in a gallon of diesel. Then kept on turning the ignition on and off until I got diesel into the filter chamber.Banged in a new filter and started up.I then as Singvogel stated in his post, filled up with V power and a good dash of 2 stroke oil.
The fuel I drained off was nearly pure petrol, although not pure enough to run my mower.

The car had ran on the petrol I believe, until the fuel vaporized in the pipes.
Oh and yes its gone like stink ever since.
Probably cleaned out all the crap.
Of course its not a common rail system but high pressure Pump Deuse, a better more robust system I think.

yeah common rail is the big worrier with petrol ive read a few storys in the past when i did it to my old berlingo, which was never the same afterwards altho it did have 180,000 ish on the clock
