Hi All.

Freelander 1 TD, W reg, old type engine

In a total fit of brain freeze I put something between 3 and 4 litres of unleaded into my tank at that point my poor old brain unfroze :eek::eek::eek:

It seems to still be running smoothly enough, have I got away with this one? Usually if anything goes wrong it's the most expensive option.........

Am I looking at having my tank drained?

I've done that in my Maverick. All I did was filled the tank with diesel. The petrol acted as a fuel system cleaner in my case but that was a Nissan engine although the pump was a Bosch pump.
 
same here sv we never went a winter with out doing that ,but my friend a couple of weeks ago brimed it as he always does BUT with petrol and had to be rescued

yup, definitely done this with a few old mob bedfords etc on exercise, to stop diesel freezing.

Back in the days when Queen Victoria was a little boy we used to add petrol deliberately to prevent waxing of the diesel when the temperature dropped below -15 degrees or so.

Some of us still do. 10% does no harm...and drops the waxing point by about 6 degrees. :)

Aaaaarrrroooooo Aaaaarrrroooooo - Nostalgia Alert.

Hmmm - Fodens - ;) - the place where I worked had the big 4 axle jobs.

Some mornings we lit fires of cardboard boxes under the fuel tanks. :eek:

No Health & Safety nonsense in those days. No heaters in the cabin either.

Even in the first Mini a heater was an optional extra.

You just had to wrap up well in several layers of jumpers etc.

No thermal kit either back then.

Those were the days eh. Anyone with a string vest was a wimp!

Right that's it - enough nostalgia for now.

Fodens them were the days, I used to work on Seddon Atkinsons with the wooden cab frame and the old ERF A series. The drivers used to put boards from the engine hump cover to the ledge on the doors as a bed to stay out over night. No power steering, double declutch for gears it was all a big learning curve for a skinny 17 year old:)
