Yes, it's a real brooklands with all the paperwork
You'll see from the previuos post, its had an immense amount of money spent on it.
I'd be lucky (understatement) to find another like it for what insurance has offered

i would hammer them with lots of valuations from specialists and get the money up mate. dont let them write it off for that

Yeah. I shall be. It's a **** take that I'll probably end up doing the assembly work myself, even if I take it for professional paint, through some idiot driving into the side of me.....

...but, I've got to look at it from another perspective. Atleast I'll be fitting a brand new inner wing light assembly, outer wing and bumper. That's gonna improve the car, because I have no doubt that I'll find rust in and around inner wing. There was also a multitute of holes drilled behind the front regplate on the bumper, so atleast they'll be gone with a new one too

How much was it insured for?

Don't settle for anything less than the full amount! Then you can offer to buy it back from them for a couple of hundred, and they'll almost rip your hand off as it saves them from 'disposing' of it!

When they wrote mine off, I got the full £2.5k, bought it back fr £200 and spent £300 to get it repaired.

Then it was a standard MoT and an inspection at a VOSA Test station, a total of around another £100.

My Fender is now back in full working order ... and still mine!!

I got a new wing off ebay still in LR box £30
Got the inner wing/headlamp frame assembly £200
Need to get the front GRP Brooklands bumper (Rimmers have them) £280...no, they have brackets to fasten direct.
Plus lights and clips etc
...then there's the painting (anyone know where to get LR Aspen Silver by the Litre? all I can find are touch up pens and aerosols)

I can see that I'm probably gonna be out of pocket on this one :(

but obviuosly not starting anything until the insurance issues are resolved

Why should you be out of pocket? Consult your own solicitor and take a private claim against him, cost you nothing. :)

Insured for £3000.

Shall have to see what insurance says next. Got the strong feeling they're just testing me at the mo regards the offer.

Hi Fett,
No, unfortunately its not an 'agreed value' policy. Though I've had lots of advice regarding the terminology involved, and there's definately some room for hammering out a realistic settlement.
Got some good news regarding BrightonAutopaints link you sent me. I emailed them as Aspen Silver 458 wasn't on their website. Within the hour I got an email back, yes not a problem. Ordered and paid over the web and within 48 hours I now have a big pot of basecoat colour!!!...fabulous service, and well recommend to others, cheers Fett :)
Some more good news, I know I shouldn't be doin anything to the car 'til the insurance people pull their finger out, but I couldn't resist...Had a closer look at the car (which is now back with me), peeled back the outer wing. Superb!!....looks like it doesn't actually need the full inner wing box section replacing, just the front light frame subassembly. This makes the job MUCH easier, as no stripping of the inner wing is needed. Then just needs the outer wing and the bumper replaced, which I will paint before fitting.
I largely suspect the work involved will take much less time than the insurance nonsense will take. Though, I think it wise not to start any major work til settled.

thats good news matey , glad I could help!

have they come to asses all the damge yet? if so and your determind to keep it I would just get the sucker fixed now. I doubt they will be back, the light box is cheap from paddocks or yrm and what the hell else you gonna do with a big can of matching silver paint :D

Yeah, my own insurance has assessed it, but its sods law that if I start fixing it the third party insurers will wanna come and see it.
Yeah, got all the bits to fix it up now....just need to finish the engine swap in the bobtail (which helps stop the urge to start fixin it immediately), then I can move this silver one in place to start as soon as insurers have stopped messin about.

lol tell third party its in storage at x cost-if they want to see it then it needs to be soon or staoge at there expense. get the refusal in writing then you can crack on when ready (as it will take ages to get a letter out fo them)

I went round and fired up the 72 for the first time in 6 weeks today. makes me want to start using it more. maybe a trip tomorrow and I can break something to fix now youve got me all keyed up :D

So I went round today and she fired right up , I took it on a a 20 mile run and got some petrol too and she ran perfect. I guess I can tune su carbs after all

it must have been too hot before as in the garage on one of the hottest days of the year and stainless headers. it nearly killed me anyway- got about five burns and heatstroke

Im very happy , thanks for the inspiration joe :p

Glad I inspired someone Fett!....
Could have done with some more inspiration today. I nearly lost m cool ...gettin the flywheel, then spacer off the old knackered engine to put on the replacement engine (replacement engine was obviously attached to a manual box where-as I got an autobox).. I went n chewed up one of the allen headed bolts! 2 hours, two knackered drill bits, broken impact driver bit and half a bottle of blow torch gas, I eventually managed to weld a bolt on the end of the chewed head and get the bugger off!...Could have done without it to be honest:(. Replacement engine is now sat in the bobtail engine bay, at a very slight angle, one mount slotted in but the other is about 1/8 inch out and the engine hasn't quite located into the two gearbox lugs! No amount of wiggling an levering seemed to work.. Ho hum, left it as is before I set light to the feckin thing!...a fresh mind and another day it'll all slot into place I'm sure:rolleyes:

lol , we have all had those days joe, chin up mate as its good when they are working well so 1 day in every 100 days it pays off :p

if you we closer I could come and give you some abuse- er I mean encouragement :D
