As of title. I've had my starter off countless times over the past few weeks and it never stays free for more than a couple of days.

Has anyone managed to stop theirs sticking semi permanently?

Petrol or Diesel ? Is there anyone from the board local to have a look ? You may be missing something. If inertia type look for bruises and burrs and when fitted they must be dry, any oil makes clutch debris etc. cling to them. Is it coming out oily from leaking input shaft or rear main seals ?

It's a 5 bearing petrol. Yeah actually I'm going to meet some today so may whip it out for them. Ooerr.
It comes out clean every time and I spray clean it and dry it. Works for a day and then nothing, lucky the hand crank works nicely!

When you say it stops working, does that mean that it doesn't turn or doesn't engage?

Eitherway, have you checked your earths?

Sorry, meant the drive dog. I am going to take it in work and get a dremel on it to smooth back out and see if that helps precedings

The starter bendix hanging up? just take it apart and a good cleaning, fresh grease, and check gasket, seals to keep water/dirt out and all the conectors are clean and tight, Might need new connectors on ends of the power leads

If you do a youtube search there is alot of info there that might help you

The problem is that the starter bendix drive keeps seizing. It is a common problem apparently and happens frequently on mine. The bendix is in the bellhousing and is very susceptible to dirt, water and clutch dust clogging it up so I have been advised NOT to leave it lubricated, just cleaned and replaced, however that doesn't seem to be cutting the mustard.

Nickjaxe, does that make it any clearer?

Yep;) that is why I directed you to youtube. Metal on metal will slick, they need lube, that is when mentioned seals, gasket etc. The mod would not put up with that, and look at the condition some work in.

Sorry Thor, i skipped over the youtube bit, will look now

I used to have this problem all the time. Spent my time looking at the starter as you have, turns out it was the remote solenoid that was my problem.

I've already replaced the remote solenoid. It's definitely the Bendix as it's always seized when i pull it out. I will clean it up and put some photos up.

Whipped it out this afternoon. Sprayed the Bendix with some corrosion Preventing light oil after a quick wire brush. Will let you know how long it lasts but replacing the starter without any lubrication on lasted a day!
