Passenger Door Lock Problem

Latest problem to hit me last night and could do with some words of wisdom please. I'm talking 86 pre defender passenger door with lift up door handles and the sprung thumb turn inside lock. I'd parked up in the driveway at home and was having a barney with the missus, she got out the car and really slammed the door shut. At least I can blame her but the thumb screw lock pushes in but won't turn enough to lock it.

How do I fix this please coz at the moment the door is unlockable and I don't like that feeling.
Is it a case of chuck out the lock and replace with new or is it fixable?

I may be reading your fault description wrong but from what I understand I think the door latch has some how moved and although your door shuts its not shut properly enough for the lock to work. With the door open try working the handle by pushing on the door catch till its in the shut position, then try the lock. If the lock works then I'm correct that the latch has moved, probably moved further into the vehicle and it dont have to be by much for it to cause your problem.
Failing that try the two screws holding the rubber block on the top of the latch might need to be tighter.
I fitted these doors to my vehicle recently and had similar problem to yours.

Yes had a closer look at this after you replied and it was a simple fix. The lock on the inside is attached to the handle mechanism by two small bolts, they had loosened and just needed to move it back into position and retightened

Nice easy repair, dont get many of them on a landy

Glad its all sorted, now go buy the wee woman a bunch of flowers and the world will be a happy place again

The root cause of this issue can be traced to a fault in your female unit - recommended resolutions include trading her in for a younger model, or attempting to fix the issue with bribery such as mentioned above, with flowers or other gifts.

No idea about your problem with the door lock though.
