After 2 1/2 years, my Series 3 88in Diesel is finally back on the road.

What started as a bulkhead change ended up as a complete rebuild including a new chassis.

Thanks for the input from everyone here.

As always there's still some issues to sort out. I was told at the MOT station that it was idling too fast. This needs adjusting down. There is also the issue of fuel possibly draining back to the tank (and air getting into the pump) when it's been left standing. There are also a few minor leaks to sort out (as always).

There also seemed to be a whirring noise when I pull away, which disappears once I get moving. Maybe it's just a case of getting used to old gearbox technology again.

Great result for you. There is always something to do on a Landy, even a rebuilt one....

It was registered in 1972 so it's tax exempt and therefore LEZ exempt.

The London LEZ cutoff date seems to be fixed at 1st Jan '73 although the tax exemption is now rolling at 40 years again.

Well done. I admire you driving a S3 diesel in central London. I had a diesel a few years ago..a Smokey 2.25l. It was bad enough driving guy it home on the Motorway. HGV's bearing doon on yea etc. Got my MOT last week; good feeling enjoy .

I'm not actually in central London, but the Low emission zone does come out into some of the suburban areas.

The best thing about driving a series round here is that the drivers in the modern plastic boxes give you plenty of space.

Right on mate, respect for older vehicles n that. Another MOT means your landy is helping to keep a fleet of iconic vehicles alive. So when you drive it that's part of the feel good factor. People in wee hatchbacks will never understand that.
