This is all from recollection, so dont shoot me if i'm a bit off.

Presuming you mean RAVE, the reason Rave does not play well with Mac / iPad is because it uses Acrobat Reader 4 (or 5) functionality to index-link all the individual PDF files that make up RAVE (the Acrobat reader that it needs comes on the CD as an exe which of course only runs on PC).

Somebody, somewhere (found it on the interwebs ages ago - think it was an Argentinian FL site) re-did and re-linked rave into a single large PDF file so it worked everywhere - but from didnt include the TD4...so i didn't use that.

Theoretically, if someone had the tools and patience, they could re-do RAVE into a single internally indexed PDF, that would work on anything that can read normal PDFs.

Maybe someone has already done that, but i've never come across it.

downloading stuff to the ipad isnt so simple - the "disk" structure is nothing like a PC

Best way is to down load to your PC then copy across to the ipad as an ibook or similar

Hi mate,

You won't be able to download on to an iPad unless the item you're downloading is part of an app. For example you can downlaod photos as there is a photo app for them to locate to but other things you won't be able to do. As for an external disc player there is no way of attaching it to an iPad as there is no USB / Firewire input. Think of your iPad as being a large iPhone without the 'phone' part of it.
The only possible way I could see to get it on your iPad would be to email it to yourself but obviously you then need to keep the email on your iPad ... hope that helps.

I found that for my vehicle (Disco 300) that certain parts of the Rave, the manuals for instance, were separate pdf files, hence I have a pdf of the Workshop manual, the Electrical manual, the engine manual and others. I'd guess the same for the Freelander, but cba to put in the effort myself .. :)

You'll need a PC, some time and patience and have to search through a load of files and the file structure trying to open each file .. IIRC they weren't named as manuals, something like "abd35c" ...

AFAIK you need version 20 or later Rave. Thats when they stopped using the encrypted PDFs. I havent found it yet, so not sure about this. Just read it somewhere.

thks guys

they do a usb connector for the iPad as I've just bought a sd card reader,

there is a box where u can plug the flat end of the usb connector into it, but u guys have given me a thought could i possibly buy an external hard drive, format it , download it via the net onto the drive then into the ipad

cant get onto my laptop as thats thrown a strop and no point buying another one but may have to see if i could get a cheap second hand dell etc,

or could i use a memory stick, but as u say its having the software for it to work

maybe if the stick would work about loading pdf program onto the stick etc

any thoughts guys what do u think

The version of RAVE that's generally available to download is a windows application. It doesn't matter how you try and get it onto the iPad it will not work.

I found a single PDF of the P38 workshop manual that didn't require a password. That one does work on the iPad as its just a PDF file. As for getting it onto the iPad I just use Dropbox.

thks guys for the info, just annoying in trying to somehow get a way of viewing the workshop and parts on the ipad,

appreciate ur help

You might struggle it to work as the ipad doesn't support Accrobat. This is why wouldn't have anything from Apple, I much prefer Android devices as they are much more user friendl, having been developed to work with PC formats. For instance I have a copy of the freelander workshop manual on my Android phone!!
Good luck with getting it to work ;)

Hi there what you need to do is set up a free Dropbox account on your computer & get the Dropbox app for your iPad. Then copy your wshop manual PDF into the Dropbox folder on the computer & let it sync itself to Dropbox, then go to the iPad app & select you PDF from the list on the left & it will open, you then click the arrow icon top right of screen, then open in, then use iBooks & you will have the wshop manual on your iPad. It sounds a long winded way of doing it but once you have Dropbox & iBooks setup it's easy to transfer most large files from computer to iPad.

Hope that helps Dan :)

I have the ipad 3 but not tried to use online manuals. A good place to look is the ipad forum which covers the ipad 4 if you're still unsure, its also a free app.

I'm afraid this wont work either IPad's use a totally different file system and there's no concept of formatting external drives with Apple IOS
