P38 wont select park or neutral

Morning all,

Pulled into a layby and switched the engine off and now I cannot get it to start. When in neutral it thinks its in 3rd and in park it thinks its in 2nd thus I cannot start.

P38 is a 2000 2.5 DSE.

Has been misbehaving for a week now, always seems to happen when its been raining. Any ideas?
 
check cable underneath both at lever at xyz switch and where its clamped on box side, if selector in cab is fully forward in p lever at box should also be fully forward , if thats ok suspect xyz switch
