Hi Guys and Gals.....Changed the plenum foam yesterday and removed the windscreen wiper arms in the process.
I have noticed that one of the arms has a "Twist" forrmed into the arm body, the other is straight.
Can you pop outside, have a look and let me know which side the "Twisted" arm fits (Drivers or passenger).
:)

2000 model, the driver's side has a slight bend a couple of inches back from the blade fitting. Any use?

Thanks for that Dogsbody.
Looking at the wiper arm, there is the part which goes onto the spindleand is hinged at the "meaty" part of the arm which in turn has the long flat narrow section which has the blade attached to.
It's the "Meaty" part of the arm that I'm referring to.
Difficult I know to try and put into words what I'm referring to.

Would post a photo, but just back from the pub and my hands are not too steady at the moment !!!

Just wondering how much of a pig changing the foam is?, a few people have said its a pain and not really worth doing but noticed mine does now need a new piece and was looking for any heads up with the job? Thanks.

Drivers side has the twist in it (assuming I put em back in the right order! ;) ).
Changed mine last weekend along with the pollen filters, pollen filters were completely blocked with leaves, branches and small animals!
The gulley with the wiper mechanism was chock full of crap too.
Not too difficult a job, screws were in a right state so replaced em.

Take the windscreen finisher clips off out of the main cover before putting it back, no way that thing is sliding back on to them like it came off.

Would say it's definitely worth doing after all the crap that had been sucked into the pollen filters.

Thanks Guys for the info...looks like I have them the wrong way round !!!
Yes it is a bit fiddly and you need long arms to reach the screws holding the centre section of the plastic finisher !
Another possible problem is the heads of the screws tend to rust making the screwdriver fit difficult...make sure you get as much ****e out of the head before you try to undo them, use a Pozidrive not a Phillips screwdriver.
I have replaced all the original screws with Stainless,Pozidrive, Pan Head self tappers, size 8 X 3/4" long, get them off Ebay-will last a lifetime.
When you remove the lower winscreen trim (It just pulls off), the clips are left behind and have to be pulled out and refitted into the groove in the finisher. It may pay to get a few spares beforehand..Part no. BTR4428, around £1.00 each (Pricey when you see what they are) as they tend to weaken after repeated removal/refit....I think there are about 14 in total.
Unhook the spring "Wire" frame and remove what's left of the tattered foam. I did a "Mod" this time. I cut a piece of galvanised, light gauge chicken mesh the same size as the foam, fitted it under the foam and it's held in place with the spring frame. The mesh was additionally held to the wire frame by a few small plastic tie wraps. End result is that the foam is fully supported...time will tell if it lasts longer than before.
Whilst you have the panel removed, it's a good opportunity to grease the ball joints on the wiper link arm. Using a screwdriver or similar, prise the ends of the link off the respective ball joints, pack the sockets with grease and refit, making sure they snap back into position. They may need a bit of pressure but they will go back with a positive "Click".
Refit the panels and lower finisher(Aligning the clips up with the holes beforehand).
Put a smear of copper grease on the wiper spindle splines before fitting the wiper arms.
I bought a wiper arm removal tool from Machine Mart sometime ago for around a fiver, makes removal a doddle, very useful piece of kit.
Good Luck:)

I replaced mine because I didn't see the point in replacing the pollen filters without the plenum foam to stop the big stuff getting that far and blocked pollen filters can put a strain on the blower motors.

O.K. it's another fiddly job but how often are you going to do it? Once every five years or so?

How much was the foam, and have you got a part number? Im writing a list of little jobs to do when got some money, and mine is missing in places. seems a good one to do.

Mine has a twist in the drivers side arm main body after the hinge point. However i have always put it down to the blade coming off and jambing the arm. Until i twisted the blade holder back around the wiper made a terrible noise jumping across screen.

I'll be heading there for my parts 1st next time! :)

Didn't put any support behind my filter, but can see that it would defintely have helped...probably makes it last quite a bit longer.

thanks for all the info will be ordering it this week so should get round to fitting it at the weekend. think ill go for your idea with the chicken wire irish, think ive got some kicking around.

Thanks all. Hope to have a job and money soon so will get it done, as most of mine is missing. Will def go for the chicken wire option. I did pollen filter when I serviced it.
Shopping list getting longer now. I use Island 4x4 anyway. I used to pop in if was working near them. They only 45 min from me.
